i thinking thumbing is a bit of a crap description.....what you do to get a hot shot off a cocker....any cocker, is hold the cocking rod and pull the trigger till you feel the sear disengauge then you carfully let the cocking rod in so that it rests in what would normally be an 'uncocked' position which also places the hammer directly against the valve then you take the flat of your hand and twat the end of the cocking rod HARD this opens the valve and if the spring in your valve is light enough gives you a MAJOR hot shot.....beavertails were introduced to stop you hitting your cocking rod.....absolutly nothing to do with adjusting the dialer
