Has the sport lost the need for skill?

I know I’m going to get slated by all of you but here goes:
Being an old git, I remember the days of pumps with misty eyes and laughing at Rafe with his Golden Eagle going full auto and falling to bits in the middle of a speed ball game! All of us in Bad Co (uk) said semi’s would never catch on and if they did it would ruin the sport…..Ha Ha…. How wrong could we be? So semi’s arrived and if you wanted to stay at the top you had no option but to get one and carry an obscene amount of paint. Did they ruin things? No I don’t believe they did and I feel those were possibly the best days of paintball.
So what my point? Well I feel things have gone to far, 20 balls a sec!!!? Give any punter that’s play a few times a top of the range marker and 2000 paint on his back and let him hose down the field, what kind of skill does that take?

Is paintball now about who can afford the most paint and shoot it the fastest?

When was the last time you had the buzz of back dooring half of the opposition?

Are you tiger in disguise?

I'd like to see a noob pick a semi and use it as good as a player who has used it for several months/years.

So in fact, yes it does take skill to use a semi.

Searching for the pro-tour....:S
Well I havn't really seen many sup'air fields where backdooring the opposition is a possibilty.

One of our guys did manage it on Sunday playing a woodland concept field.

I guess the game has irrevocably changed towards an intense, speed driven sport. Not just rate of fire but movement, thinking, reacting and the unfortunate thing, running  !

As for the skill it may not take much skill to hose paint, but it takes a lot of skill to stay in behind a puny bunker whilst being hosed by 2 or 3 guns, and still play an active part in the game. Admittedly it is easier to fire vast volumes of paint, but that just moves the skillset onto how you dodge, snap shoot and move under far more intense fire.

I for one think that the faster the guns get, the more skilled players must become to stay in the game.

Me a Tiger LOL, no but i've shot one or two in my time.

I dont think it would take to long to learn how to shoot a gun! so not really my idea of skill.
And are you saying the most important skill in the game is being able to shoot a semi?

You make some good points my freind. Been in the sport long?

Didnt Arenaball have all of those things plus some of the woodland skills?

My legs are bent, my eyes are dim and my gun is old! :D

i would still rather play 10man in the woods!!

uh..no.

Im just stating my opinion on what you stated...

Give any punter that’s play a few times a top of the range marker and 2000 paint on his back and let him hose down the field, what kind of skill does that take?

Sure dude, of course it is - if you can't fire your gun properly you have zero impact on tha game. So absolutely, tha single most important skill is shooting your semi.
