Thats how all this got started and then pepole said they wanted more.

The problem is finding a large expanse of flat ground with the amenities to cater for the event, that is affordable and available.

It's alot harder than you think. If we go deep into public territory, Hyde Park for example, liability becomes a major issue and costs increase. Then we have to have the increased security everyone wants etc etc etc

What if the Millennium pooled all the money spent on movong the series around Europe and built a permanent site to host the series, say in France. Would that be acceptable?

A permanent field large enough to hold major international events whenever and however the owners saw fit. Run it like a race track where events could hire the venue?

Would we as players want to turn up to the same place 5 times in a year to battle it out. Great fields, all the toilets, showers you need, everything there built to last?

or...

Would we be saying that its a bit boring because we dont get to travel around Europe anymore?

Thoughts....

Let's face it - what are we really looking for here, a bit of grass with a car park next to it ........ hardly rocking horse poo is it?

The latter..... The series, just like the others out there is a roadshow. Part of it's appeal is that it moves from country to country (or state to state in the US) giving local teams the oportunity to participate in a world class event.

Other events across europe have managed to find suitable venues. It's not rocket science to find something simular over here. But, please, for god's sake not Crystal Palace again.... lessons need to be learnt.

Crystal Palace always had that little extra magic that "a patch of grass with a cark park" lacks - atmosphere. This year the way it was layed out wasn't ideal, the random selection of playing surfaces was disappointing, and having the local criminal fraternity descend on the car park every day probably didn't improve people's opinions, but how many players in UK paintball have been yearning for a return to Crystal Palace for the last 3 years?

But I'm more of the opinion now that the patch of grass is all that we need, along with some clever layout and planning by the organisers. But I'm also becoming more certain that it needs to be somewhere where the public can actually see it, and by public I don't just mean friends and family.

Jeff thats possibly the sanest idea ive ever heard anyone who is in paintball come up with.

You could negotiate deals with local amenities, local sponsorship, publicity etc etc.

What does the millenium series gain by being a road show really? At the minute, the venues aren't brilliant and certainly aren't coming up to the standard wanted by the players or spectators, sponsorship is nearly almost only PB industry and hardly any public turn up to any tournament.

Liklihood is people will ahte this idea when in fact it is one of the most genius things i have read on here in a very long time. I doff my cap to you sir.

i would say either Old Trafford or the best place would be the NEC. I have no idea how much they would cost to rent or whatever. But, they are big and easy to get to.

That sports city on Manchester is to small for a big event but it would be cool.

I don't think you would get it at old trafford but you might at old trafford cricket ground.

NEC was cool would be better in side.

what about alton towers ??

thing is, i see all these suggestions of places, and yet i doubt even 95% of you would want to pay for it.

Hell the amount of people who jump teams, the teams who jump sponsors etc etc just to get things a little cheaper is all the proof i need to see that this would be fact. There's enough whining at the moment from various people about how expensive paintball is.

Jeff's idea would more than likely lower costs. If they could promise and airlines/hotel/resteraunts etc a good thousand people every month for five months a year then you would all be the much happier.
