What's in a name.....

Buddha 3

Hamfist McPunchalot
Okay, Im putting up this post, because I logged on today, and I saw that there is a new member to this forum, who goes by the name of Rightwing Conspirator.
In all probability this guy (or girl) doesn't mean any harm by this nickname. But to be honest, I find it offensive. I'm not the most PC guy in the world, but something about rightwingers scares me.
Here in Holland, rightwingers are borderline nazis. Sure, many people have rightwing tendencies, but those who really call themselves rightwingers are not the sort of people that have open minds. If this ain't the case in where ever this guy is from, I apologize to him. What scares me about these people, is the fact that, if they had there way, I could not be married to my wife. Therefore, I would not be able to have the beautiful daughter that I have. So names like that hit me on a somewhat personal level.
I can also imagine that a lot of American people would not feel comfortable with rightwingers around, seeing that they spawned the likes of Timothy McVeigh, and most likely the people responsible for the recent anthrax scare as well.
To make a long story short, rightwingers are generally unpleasant. Add to that a conspiracy, and there's no fun to be had at all.

So mister Conspirator, please create another log in for yourself, or I'm afraid I will ask the moderators of this forum to block your access to this board (assuming they have that ability).
If you meant no harm by that name, I apologise for sounding harsh, but please understand my motivations.

All the best and take care.

Jay.

Hey Bud,
I don't find the notion of anybody aligning themselves to the right wing offensive in anyway but I do think he over-stepped the mark by adding 'conspirator' which conjures up all sorts of unwholesome ideas.
In the present climate, radicalism as inferred by this geezers choice of 'Sign in' name is perhaps a little inappropriate to say the least.
In fact, i will ask him to change it to say 'Mr Right Wing' or something of that ilk so as to negate any misinterpretations anybody might have made.
I am pretty sure he won't have any problems in doing it as I don't think he meant to infer what he has, if he did, then he won't be allowed back on.
We'll see.

I see your point. Trust me when I say there is a deeper meaning to the name though. One that is not offensive at all to any buddhist.

It was not my intent to spark off a controversy at all. Like I said, there are a number of people with opinions that are somewhat to the right of the middle of the road (hell, I think that applies to most people, me included even!), it's just that the name made my hair stand on end (as little as I allow to grow on my scalp anyway).
Like I said, and like you seem to agree to, most likely the guy means no ill with his name. Therefore I tried to be as gentle as possible in my posting, because I do not want to say nasty things to a person who is unaware of any wrongdoings.

I appreciate your responses, and I apologize for having dragged you into this, something that is basically just my opinion.
As you are probably aware, there has been a lot of political ranting going on lately, and I never meant to start another thread of that nature.

Regards,

Jay.

S'alright.
I enjoy this kind of thing anyway, and I doubt any buddhists would really be offended! I was just labouring the point cos rightwing conspirator probably meant no more harm than you. Who's to know who you will offend? Some underendowed people probably find 'Mr Big' offensive, like rubbing salt into the wound.

And god knows how many people I offend in PGI each month. But that's my job...

And with just that remark you've managed to turn around what started as a somewhat somber thread, into something hilarious.....
Not trying to suck up (honest!), but I think that's what sets PGI apart from most of the other 'Ball mags out there; the sense of humour that is hidden in the articles like easter eggs.

Heehee....okay, I'm done giggling now. My staff is staring at me again........
