Is it me or is this like a completey strange and a big waist of everyones time... If you really are into this kind of thing then go join the army.... paintball is a sport that should be treated like one... you do not see 60 footy players all joing togther to take on another 60 ... It would be laughed at....

This I would like to add is my words knowone elses....

I can see the attraction of a BIG Game, though ive never played one myself.

Jus because 60vs60 footy games arnt on TV doesnt mean they dont happen. Go check out a local park on a Saturday afternoon.

I belive that there is nothing wrong with people competing in big games. The only thing this will do is push tournament paintball further away from rec-ball. With tourney paintball growing and growing, big games and woodland tourneys are now being looked down on. Why?

Peace

I hope you're sitting down as this might come as a bit of a shock to you, not every one wants to play tournament paintball, no one's going to make you play in a big game so if you don't want to play don't go :D
Rec-ball is a game that is played and enjoyed by many, so if you're not interested don't view the Rec-ball pages .....

Umm...

The way that lacrosse was originally played was like this. My kid thinks it was the Lacota who played it like this, but there were HUNDREDS of players trying to get the ball "over there".

Now, my kid also plays "two ball", the rules of which I'm not familiar with, except he tells me that it involves lots of people with sticks bludgeoning each other. And there's no limit on team size.

Now if you want a modern example... lemme go look this up. Ok, I found one refrence to "the Ba". http://www.sss.ed.ac.uk/archives/paper_one.html

In Jedburgh and a handful of neighbouring villages a game is played in the period just before and at the beginning of Lent which involves the whole town or village, the men and boys in which are divided into halves, such as the Uppies and Doonies of Jedburgh. They play for fun, for prestige, for tradition, or, they say especially, for the money or drink which is awarded to those who 'hail' a ball, as it is called, that is, get a goal by bringing a ball into their own area and sending it into an unmarked but traditionally recognised 'goal'.
I often wonder if modern players have any concept that eh game has evolved, and how it got to where it is today.

I like tourney play but i also like rec ball with 60 or 70 people on a team, it allows for so much more on a tacitcal level, i have always loved paintball for the sheer thrill, but when it comes down to it in tourneys the winner is usually the team with the best players but with 60 or 70 players you dont know who is most skilful so you have to try and figure out where to send large squads of people and usually you dont even see teams o 60 or 70, you just see many many teams of 6 or 7 mates... who just happen to not shoot it out with people the smae way as them.

Kartmann...you really loaded the question with your perception of the "sport". Basically, it doesn't matter if there were 10 people playing rec ball or 1000....the whole idea of non-competitive "non-sport" paintball does not appeal to you.

With that said...

Big game format is really just an extension of rec-ball where the game is usually "all day" and players are able to re-insert at set times. It's a great format if you want to spend a day out in the woods and get in as much play as possible. I've found in a normal rec ball day, a lot of time is wasted starting and stopping the games, and of course you sit around once eliminated.

I really consider big games to be "practice" for my real love - scenario games.

Kartman isn't sad mate. He was obviously just bored and wanted to start a debate.

In his humble beginings, he was an awesome woodland player and devoloped into an excellent tournament player.

Now retired from the game and missed by his buds on Campaign Power, it would appear that he just can't stop talking about it.

I would have to agree that it is not everyones "cup of tea" but if your havin' fun doing what you do, then keep doing it.

Lifes too short!!!

Peace.
