What is this bolt

Ok, below (should be... I suck at this technical stuff) a couple of pictures of the bolt that I have just aquired with a new (to me at least!) marker.

As a test, what marker is it for....

If you do know this (which y'all should be able to spot) then another question: Why? Why is the front section sprung? What does it achieve (or at least what is it supposed to have?).

It is i believe called a G1 slingshot bolt for a cocker,is was supposed to help stop blowback up the feedneck tube.

Yup, that's right on all counts...

Ok, so what's blowback (is that gas going back up the feed tube?) and how does/should such a bolt prevent that?

Am i good or what,lol.Blowback occurs when excess gas goes up the feed tube,normally caused by incorrect timeing.The idear was to allow all the gas to escape through the bolt before the bolt retracted back.Hope this helps.

That's quite cunning. Is it any good? I was told by one person today "Get rid of that as soon as poosible"

Never used one,i would also agree ,get rid of it,it can only slow down your fire rate & muck with your timeing.

I had one,

All it does is delay the bolt face from moving back by a fraction of a second.

When I had one, it just mucked up the timing as that delay isn't constant, it depends on the friction holding the bolt forward being the same each time. But once you've shot some gas, got condensation, oil, paint in the breech the whole thing goes to hell and the timing (and velocity) goes up and down like a porn star.

My advice - put a "normal" bolt in, time it properly and leave it all the hell alone

ok, look out for other bolt realted strings...

BTW anyone want a genuine bit of history? A G1 slingshot bolt for a cocker for sale to anyone who wishes to ignore the previous posts... (well I'm thinking about it anyways).

I believe it is an Ironman series (not that it says that anywhere on it, it's just that a number of people have identified it as such earlier today.

richard. me and you, there must be some sort of psychic connection. i have the exact same bolt, and was gonna ask this exact same question. but thanx to you, no need. i have used the bolt, only practising, and, what they say is true.
velocity does move around, some balls drop much shorter. only thing it has going for it, it looks kool when ya back block is erm, back.
