Hi,

There's been a lot of discussion recently about what kind of articles we'd like to see in PGI...

Here's my Ideas:

1. Objective High End Marker Supertest.
I want to see an OBJECTIVE (none of this "In my opinion the trigger is better than x" nonsense) supertest of the best markers in the world... I want Emag C&C, Angel IR3, Matrix LCD, Viking, RaceGun, Evo, etc. Head to head in a What-Hifi style Supertest. Stick the same barrels and airsystem on all of em and then rate them!

People want to know what the best markers are. This'll tell em.

2. Myths and common mistakes.
There's an interesting series of articles at Automags.org where Tom Kaye debunks some of the common assumptions made about paintball. Things like 'Longer barrels are more accurate", "Cockers shoot further", "Low pressure is always better", etc...
This is interesting, opinion-changing stuff... Lets have some of that.

3. Be a bit more critical in reviews.
Everybody likes to see a **** product get panned. Do it more.
I do realise that you rely on advertising revenue from some of these companies, so there's an element of 'Biting the hand that feeds you', but I dont care. I'd like to know that if something's ****, you'll say so.

4. More cool pix. I like the gallery bit where you montage a load of funny/odd pix together. Maybe a section where readers can send in their cool pix from tourney and you'll print em up (only if they're cool/funny/sexy enough of course!).

Just my opinions.
Feel free to add your own

Thanks

Jan.

Jan, glad to hear you 'don't care' but I wonder if you would be so indifferent were the magazine your only source of income !!!

We are critical of all products that we find not up to scratch but we ain't gonna pan it just because it satisfies people's desire for sensationalism.
Nah, if any product is dysfunctional in any way, you will read as much but we ain't in the business of slamming products into the ground just for the sake of it.

PS Some of your other points are quite good and are now noted !

Point 1 is interesting, but it won't show 'the best', cos it's subjective. What it will show is accuracy and no. of shots from a given air source. Hell, it won't even tell you ROF cos some players can shoot certain guns faster than they can shoot others, s'all down to what different people find comfortable.

Bottom line: There is no best gun, but there is a best gun for you. What reviews should do is tell you whether Gun X falls into your parameters and is worthy of your attention - then you try it and others and see what floats your boat.

Myths piece is good, and we are critical in PGI and WPG? If you only knew the phonecalls, mails, threats of lawsuits, pullings of advertising we've had...but you don't and you never will cos we ain't telling!

peace

I don't wanna start a slam but I didn't really see anything like that, maybe it was just the way I read it??

I agree with Jan though if the mag had that kinda stuff in it I reakon my subsription would be renewed.
As I mentioned in the previous thread get the markers bench mounted lets see the accuracy. debunk the myths. you don't need to slam a product to the point of saying its ****!

Did you read the review of the "Animal Vertebrate Cocker" in the issue before last? Hardly positive.

OK there was an error there and an apology/explanation was put in the next issue but the point remains that a hardly "kiss ass" review of a marker was in PGI.

HTH:)

Sorry typed in a rush am v. busy today!

What I meant to say i sthat I'm not dissing the mag as such but I didn't really see much that was 'that' critical in WPG. I admit though I've not read the recent reviews.

As to which shoots quicker, techy info such as reg recharge times (shoot down) could be done, max cycle times found out etc,

Paul.

Apologies for the 'Paul short hand' am rather busy!

I largely agree, however there is a lot of objective stuff you can measure:

Weight,
length, width, height,
Trigger pull length (max n min),
Trigger force (needed to pull),
Shots per tank (same tank obv.),
balance (length to fulcrum),
noise (same barrel obv.),
etc, etc.

I do concede that there are a lot of subjective aspects to each marker and it might be worthwhile writing the noteworthy ones down in the supertest too.

PGIs primary loyalty is to its readers. If it's in their interest to know that a certain company is ****, the you should tell it like it is.

Some magazines pride themselves on their independent reviews; in fact the extra readers you could gain may offset any advertising losses from pissed off companies.

I find it sad that companies base their advertising media choices on who gave them good reviews.
In fact, if someone pulls their ads based on a **** review; you should publish that fact too; let the public know who the stinkers in the industry are.
