Depends on the field and on the individual !

Play the Joy Masters, and the fronts will have easy runs to a giant 50 where they play on their feet - while the backs have impossible long runs to tiny sausages in the corners.

Play Amsterdam, and the backs take 3 steps out and are in cover, while the fronts have insanely long runs ending in bellyslides into small bunkers.

And then.... it also depends what you make of your position.

Some fronts just keep their head down and do very little - others work their bunkers like madmen (try looking at Ryan Greenspan for a good example).

Some backs are content just pooring paint down the wire game after game - others play both sides of the bunker, play high and low, communicate, keep check on opposition positions, move up to break open then game, etc.

So - basically - life is what you make it (and depends on the field).

Hmmm.. did I shut down the discussion now ?

Back players.

You can be a front player and rarely have to worry about converting to a back player role. The reverse case is not true, especially with the movement towards getting rid of the "god" back bunkers.

definatly a fine point well made, how hard any possition is to play depends entirely on the field you are playing!

if you are talking in general tho, then no position is harder to play than another, you play the position you feel most suited to.....which is how most if not all teams are structured.....but if your team is anything like ours then we move players around to see what they are like in other possitions....for example we have one player who a year ago was convinced he was a 'front' player untill we found ourselves playing in the same line up and i took the front position........after a day of dropping short to mid field and giving me covering fire and communicating with the back players he has played midfield ever since, and plays very well there......leaving me to dive over bunkers and get shot at ;)

oh and nick......after watching you guys play at stb im on a mission to get my hands on a ducklings shirt! no amount of begging could get me one that day but i will get one eventually! :D :p

Wrong again Nick!

When *I* lose my entire back line, I'm converted to the bunkeree. ;)

Which is hardest to learn/ teach?

The answer depends on the individual as well as the field layout.

I used to have a hell of a time in back stand-ups. I could play lay-downs, snakes, doritos, homeplates, whatever.
