Dead Man's Walk

Excellent day on Monday at the Skirmish Scramble - I loved every minute of it. Bully puts on top events and Nick, as ever, provides superb facilities. However, I do have one small whinge about the rules surrounding the dead man's walk -

Currently, no armbands are used at 2K3 events and an eliminated player indicates that he/she has been eliminated by placing a hand on his/her head - nothing else counts! So a player seeking to gain an advantage is well within the rules when he/she raises their arm in the air, pretending to be eliminated, walks down the side of the field and then proceeds to shoot the opposing team in the back.

The obvious solution for teams not wanting to fall prey to this move is to bonus-ball every player leaving the field that does not have his/her hand on their head. Sporting behaviour therefore goes out of the window, those getting bonus-balled get upset and tempers will flare.

Either make use of armbands or make the dead man's walk illegal. It will save a lot of aggro and help to ensure that 2K3 events remain fun to play. Just my two cents.

Enjoyed the lot!
Good marshalling, excellent atmosphere and a high standard of play throughout the day.
Ok the grass could have been shorter but it wasn't that long and even I didn't notice it as I lumbered up the field:D
All credit to Bully, Tracey, Nick and the team for the work they did putting this event together,

JJ

Ps I agree with the dead mans walk issue. With armbands - yes (it can be thrilling to watch) Without armbands - no (tempers will get frayed and it causes nothing but bad feeling)

Dead mans walk

I agree with what you say

We have not used arm bands for a long time and NOT allowed dead mans walks as a result of this.

We introduced the hand on the head in keeping with some other events so there was a clear signal of elimination.

Prior to this no one even asked about a dead mans as they new it would be breaking the rules. The soon as we insist on the hand on the head then the dead mans question appears again. Simple lets see what happens. So again some players "push the rules" by raising their hand in front of their head but not on their head and then do the deadmans. It creates problems

Personally I would prefer NO dead mans I feel it is unsportsmanlike but that is my opinion. I will speak to Russell and maybe have it changed for the next leg OR if a player raises their hand above shoulder height they can't do a deadmans walk.
