First off, this is no fiction story, I wish it were, but it isn’t. Our team has been practicing for about 4 months and has about 8 more before we’re going to jump into the NPPL circuit next year. We’ve been practicing all over Texas and this past weekend we were going to practice in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico at one of there local fields. Our concerns were of having our markers taken by the local bridge officials but we were assured by many that they have been crossing their equipment for years and had no problems. Mexico’s laws say nothing about pneumatic markers or compressed air cylinders crossing into their country; however there laws severely punish those who take in ammunition a but we had none of that. So, the four of us pilled all our gear and ourselves into my teammates truck and went on out. Well, when crossing into that side there is a light that is either red or green and this determines if your vehicle gets searched or not, well we got the red and we got searched. All of our gear was on the tables; one angel, one intimidator, two free-flow cockers, 4- 68c.u. 4500psi conquest air systems, 2 x-boarded rev’s, 2 halos, four drop forwards-2 by shocktech and 2 by KAPP, and our harnesses, masks, squeegees and jerseys. And what happens next hurt us the most…when they said they were taking EVERYTHING!!!! It all came crashing down from there. Our dreams of hitting NPPL a.m. A, our investments, our hearts; the team I play for, The Trojans, we love the sport and all we talk about is our sport, it’s in our hearts and souls, and our keys to heaven were just taken away. We tried to argue to get our stuff back but they threatened to throw us in jail and take our truck. The authorities even made us carry our markers and put them in a bin where they were to stay; they were nice enough to let us keep out jerseys and harnesses. While we were walking to our truck they were laughing at us and picking up and playing with our stuff. Now, I’m not sure if your familiar with the law enforcement of Mexico, but anyone who lives in a border town like we do knows how corrupted they are; our guess was that they are going to give our markers to their kids or keep for themselves. So my advice to all of you is to not go into Mexico no matter what anyone says, our dreams were taken away but yours don’t have to be.
