US/DOT-E bottles

I used a DOT bottle for almost 2 years at various walkons, tournaments, training etc. Genuinely did not realise.

Am I right in saying there is no difference in the bottle, simply the way it is tested?

Way its tested and certification markings on the bottle

And just to confuse things you have dual test bottles too

As far as I am aware a bottle can only be retested to it's original state of approval.

no, your just covered by no site insurance, unless the site itself rented you out the bottle...

No you are not likely to blow up, none that I'm aware of have exploded, DOT bottles basically are tested to a higher pressure which it is thought can weaken them. The other camp thinks that just means they are tested more rigorously, and therefore safer.
You can use DOT tanks as long as you buy a dive tank and fill them yourself, but as someone else has said you won't be insured.


On a different note, is there any legislation on this, or is it more because of sites/insurance decisions only?

The Legislation says no commercial organisation can fill a DOT bottle.
This allows you to personally decant from a dive tank.
