How much damage can you do?
I'm sure that a University would not mind in the slightest if they were to benefit financially £$£$ I know that my old University would do just about anything to get it's hands on some readies...
If the tournament was run at the right time (summer holidays) when the majority of conferences are held there would be limited damage to the turf which could be repaired in time for the start of the next term.
Holding a Uni tournament at the start of the Summer holidays would also make sense as the majority of hard working students will have finished their exams and will want to let their long straggly hair down.
I also don't think that you can look too big for the first tournament. - If you are looking to get experienced tournament playing teams to this event i think that you will be disappointed. The only university teams that i have even heard of are the Leopards and the DUPS. I feel that you will get a better response by advertising it to all students who can "come and have a go with their mates" - ie you'll be running a glorified punter day. After sticking at this for a couple of years, you then might get a serious tournament but i think that you'll have to get more Universities to have teams first!
3750 students playing paintball - now there's a market to capture. But then, what do i know.
