I'll be going to bournemouth next year, I'd be happy to help out in a paintball society, I've been involved with the uwe society for the past few years!

They are alot of work and ball ache but they can run really well.

In my first year here at UWE the society was run really well, with occasional trips to either Cpps or down to the NSPL fields at UCZ and super cheap re-balling twice a week in one of the sports halls. the club owned bunkers, several ions and pmrs plus air, hoppers masks and all that jazz to allow new players to give it a try. It's still being run and fielding a sup air team, I've just some what lost touch with exactly whats going on with it.

just because of the groans of trying to get the huge amount of funding required to buy full team kit to open up otherwise non paintballers to airball is nigh on impossible so the only reasonably successful societies i've seen about are just punterball groups. and even at that they are hardly out playing regularly and with pretty small numbers. saying that i'm talking from north of the border where airball is near enough extinct so that doesn't help either.
i looked into arranging my uni to actually open an airball site and running it commercially and not just for the use of students. although the simple lack of potential custom and huge set up cost meant that any plans for this were quickly shot down as well.

i'd say go for it and see how far you can get with setting it up since you won't be out of pocket, but the effort it could take might be pretty off putting when you're trying to juggle the regular stresses of uni as it is.

Thanks for posting guys!

Yeah I get enough stress with uni as it is... But I do only have uni twice a week as a first year. I mean the rest of that time is used to do assignments but I would also like to sideline something else that interests me such as a paintball society. In a couple of years time, if I set it up, I would like to see it as a sports club possibly? And receive funding from the University. However, trying to convince money hungry students to join is a challenge especially with the money that would be needed to run it and finance it. But hey its early days and im only discussing it at the moment with you guys :).

According to the University In order to setup a club/society I would need to:

Establish a committee
You need to find 5 like minded Bournemouth University students who will be your committee. They will hold the following positions: President, Secretary, Treasurer, Safety officer and Equipment/Events officer.

Fill in a registration form
One you have your 5 members sorted you will need to complete a registration form. These can be obtained either from the Students' Union Activities Area ( Above Dylans Bar, Talbot Campus) or click here to download a form. You and your commitee members will need to complete this form, including signatures (on page 3 next to the corrensponding positions).

Write a consitution
You will also need to write between you a consitution, explaining what you are planning to offer as a club or society, the issues that govern you, electoral proceedures and a mission statement. If this sounds daunting please pop and see us for reassurance and advice.

Anyone got any good ideas on how to convince five 'like minded' people to help run it?

Theres hundreds of questions I would like to ask someone currently running a paintball society at university, so If anyone knows someone I can PM it would be great :)

Cheers :D

once you realise that the laziest combination of person known to man is the student paintballer, you will realise its an absolute pain in the ass!! I now run the triathlon club at uni after playing with the paintball team and winning the uni tournament a few years back (UEA) and getting people to swim, bike and run is hard enough let alone cough up subs for a paintball trip!

One bit of advice is befriend whoever runs the union sports/clubs, they will be invaluable!!

Good luck to you!
