Let's hope Planet isn't being looked at for a takeover.
Everybody has a price Jon, even the Planet guys; and the longer those guys have been in the sport, the more receptive they will be to offers, this is I'm afraid the general way it goes in any industry and it would sure be a kick in the bollocks to all us Brits if it ever it did happen.
Thankfully, I ain't heard a damn thing like that anyway.

Anyone would sell given the right deal, and selling while you're at the top, and your value is peaking, is the smartest thing you can do.

True, and in the past, I have heard of certain parties asking questions concerning the capital worth of Planet but I've heard nothing for a long time concerning those guys which is curious to say the least.

Out of all the companies in our industry, Planet are probably the most successful in terms of maintaining turnover and resisting contraction forces with all the other parts of the industry being unable to resist.
Planet's secret was to maintain their output at a set level and therefore keeping the demand consistent; and so when the recession hit, they were never affected as other were because they had never scaled up like other parties such as Smart Parts.

SP were saddled with a 12 million dollar loan and a recessive marketplace whereas Planet still had pretty much the same demand thereby maintaining capital flow and workforce numbers. and with no big ass loan to pay back.
Mind you, the success of Planet is based upon a multitude of qualities not least or which is the nature of the workforce, it's unique.
It might sound like a cliché but Planet's workforce really is like one big family and this is because the two guys who own it, Ledzy and Julian are regarded by their employees as friends, and genuinely so.
Any interested party in terms of buying Planet would effectively behead that company leaving it bereft of that special 'something' they have always had.
This would no doubt reduce the company's worth as key people would leave over time under these circumstances.
I realise Ledz and Jules would be probably contracted in to stay on for a few years but the whole Planet culture would be undermined and the rot would set in ..... Ledz and Julian are a special couple of gems in this industry, if and when they ever leave us, it truly would be an enormous loss for this country and paintball in general.

Hear Hear!

It'll be a black day when the last of the larger independent industry firms is sold but.....

From the ashes something will rise again surely? I realise we're careering towards somewhat of a monopoly again but haven't we been here before? How many paint manufacturing companies were there in 1984? It wasn't something i paid any attention to back then but there weren't that many big players were there? We've seen many firms / manufacturers come and go over the years - even in the good times

Companies like Dye, SP and Planet grew out of passionate players wanting to make a difference or just plain knowing that they could do it better. Once the accountant led behemoths have had their fingers in the till for a while, something new and exciting will be started somewhere, when players have had enough of cheaply made products and quality drops and a plain lack of inspiration coming from the top. There will always be independent or entreprenurial (know i spelt that wrong) operators somewhere in this game and you can count on the fact that EVERYTHING comes full circle eventually.

I dont have a problem with a monopoly or duopoly situation as long as it brings stability and availability of products which has been the bane of the industry for the last 4 years or so in my book. If i can see a product in a catalgue i want to be able to buy it - not wait 6-9 months till they've decided how many to make based on pre-orders. I know it's smart and makes business sense but it's soo frustrating and embarrassing when customers are trying to buy.

What will happen? I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
