First word of advice to you my friend, is NEVER use the word "gun" when speaking to someone from the airport or courier company whichever route you go down. They will jump on you quicker than a tramp on a bag of chips.

A marker is classed as sports equipment according to the US department of transportation (TSA)... With all due respect, I think you may have been looking at the wrong information. I would advise removing the reg from your tank (even though I wouldn't actually advise that, but it is imperative to fly it), having it inspected by airport officials before checking in if possible, along with your marker before checking it along with your hold baggage. NO airline will accept even an empty air tank or marker into compartment/carry on baggage.

The same will apply for the return journey from the USA, but what I suggest you do for that is print out all the information from the TSA website pertaining to carrying sports (specifically paintball ) equipment in a plane and attach it to your relevant kit, even highlighting the paintball aspects, so marker, bottle, hopper etc and get hold of a TSA approved lock for that bag. It basically invites the TSA to inspect your baggage, as they have access via a sort of skeleton key even if your lock has a combination. The first thing TSA will see is the documentation from thier own website about how things should be carried and what the process is.

I did exactly that (bar the air tank) with kit I brought back from my holiday. When I got back to the UK, as the bag had "TSA search approved" notes stuck to it I flew through customs and I even had a note left inside from a TSA official thanking me for my diligence in taking the time to ensure I had followed the TSA regulations...

Important point about the TSA approved lock.
But the contrary is also true. A non - TSA approved lock also invited their attention. The difference being they cannot open it,so they break it off
Your baggage is then unlocked for the rest of the journey

i checked the csa website and it said if you have the marker uncompressed its safe the hoppers fine but i think the only way to take the tank is without the reg attached:/

Tinkering ain’t easy
For transporting tanks the reg must be detached (some airlines don't check but had to do mine in the airport before (travelling in Europe) I put my marker in my Luggage in its box and rang the airline before hand for them to ok it, I even asked for an email to prove it was ok to take and put it in with the marker. Make sure your bottle is ok to use in the US (DOT specification)

As for air tank experts the guys at HPAC are who you want (or someone of these boards who knows what they are doing, id recomend Tom Allen if he is free)

Get some one who knows what there doing!!!!

Yeah dye throttle good bottles but when i tried taking the reg off mine it was not so sweet. It involved a workbench with drilled on clamp, a wrench and me jumping on the end of it :-P Eventually it gave way and came off but the scratches on it left me speachless seeing as id only just got it 2 months before hand.:(
