i think a fair few teams this year have steped up to the plate. With a bit of luck more will this year. UK ball has risen in standard but i fear it is 2 little 2 late.

I dont think it's a fair few, just a few team's that are willing to put the effort in and step up. We as a nation of baller's are very narrow minded. To get to the top you have to put the money the effort, and your soul to become the best. We are just botherd about how much sponsership we can get i think we need to look at the bigger picture.

It's never too late Mart but circumstances have made it damned difficult for us all.
In fact, I would even go as far to say that under present circumstances, it's gonna be nigh impossible for any of us to get up there and when I mean up there, I mean as one of the top five teams in the world.
Sergey has shown one way, the other teams like Dynasty, show another and neither route is open to us.

I was talking to Sam Telfer the other day and we both agreed that we just don't have the players in anywhere near sufficient numbers to make a credible assault on the top 5....it's as simple as that mate.

We need more class ballers, we need more intense and intelligent training.....we need so much more and in reality we end up fighting a fight we can't win but we fight on because we love this game so much and are true competitors.

I have suggested in the magazine and on this site the only way forward whereby we can get Brit / Euro ball back on course and I'm meeting Sergey this Tuesday and having a conference call at the same time with Laurent to help try and sort some things out...so we'll see what happens, you could of course take the other route to paintball stardom and excellence and go play the PA league to get to the top

I almost started believing in Robbo and everything he had to say then he mentioned Sam! To be honest i thik they are both on the right track, however, by continuing the doom and gloom propaganda that has taken hold of Brit ball recently we may be shooting ourselves in the foot.

I think there are a number of credible teams out there that have the potential to improve beong their expectations. But the problem has always been the cycle of the same great players through a small number of teams. This means that because we are obsessed with the greener grass on the otherside and because we let petty politics get in the way, the teams that may actually have a chance at going to the top are constantly weakened.

I also think that we are narrow minded to keep looking to answer within these territorial bounderies. If we want to play on a global scale then access to the wealth of talent across europe must be addressed. In a way Robbo is right when it comes to committing to a European series but im not sure if that will be the MS since its failings are continuing to be apparent while they seem to be doing very little.

This isnt about sponsorship and it isnt about finance. This about realising that if we want to go anywhere this is not ust something we do to blow off steam. We do it becasue it is a lifestyle and is part of us. Look at the other proffessional sports out there and look at the time and commitment the participants put in. Ignore football and rugby etc. Look at swimming, athletics and the like and examine the effort and financial commitment that those athletes put in. That is what will be expected for s, and the rewards will be a long time in the coming.

I think the only way to get the standard of UK teams up is to actually promote the existance of the tournament scene.

As a newbie to the scene I had no idea it existed until I was chatting to a tourney player at the local skirmish site and the idea of playing for a team does really appeal to me ( i have to improve my game a lot though, and i've never played sup air at all, so this is the view of a complete beginner).

But, my point is, if I'd never got chatting to him, I wouldnt know it existed. There are probably hundreds or possibly thousands of people in the same situation, who would love the tourney scene but have no idea it exists.

What we really need is for someone to put the cash up (possibly manufactuers, in return for advertising space?) to get some booklets printed up and passed around national site's so they can be added to mailshots or handed out on the day. Something like an 8 page colour booklet with information about every kind of paintball game going on the uk (tourney/scenario/big games etc) and a list of links manufacturs on the back page?

Could even set up a separate site as an info site with a smaller forum on dedicated to trying to get more new people involved. I'd certainly do my share of the work to help promote things (I used to run a music promotion/street team company, so I know what I'm doing) and would happily supply the server space to host anything on.

You cant really expect people to get more active in paintball if they only see the "hobby" side of things. There needs to be more information readily available, that you dont have to look for. Because only the people who already know about the scene are going to look for it..

Anyway, that's my 2p's worth.

Edit: yes, i know it's got nothing to do with the orignal post, but someone mentioned the lack of "credible" uk teams and that we had to increase the amount of teams taking it more seriously..

All good points and something PGi has tried in the past, but the real problem here is simply the site owners: many of them do not want their rental customers to know tournament Paintball exists. The business model over here is radically different to the States, where transition is actively encouraged, because many of our site owners are short sighted in the extreme.

However, I do think the problem you outline is not what it was, given the advent of the internet; anyone with even a vague interest could type 'tournament Paintball' into a search engine and they'd soon know it exists.

One of the reasons we are behind the US was this lack of info, but things are changing in that sphere thanks to the net and to the major US companies setting up here.
