Hi there and welcome to the paintball scene in The UK. 
Alternative to all the gents already having posted - I play for Samurai MV, one of the 5 Samurai Paintball teams. We play speedball and the teams are grouped a bit into playing level and ambitions ... So something for everyone really. We have 1 - 2 open training days per month at the already mentioned Bricket Wood Training Center run by Yorkie.
However ... You should have a look around and see what is most convenient for you.
Regarding kit - we normally recommend people to come down with what they have and try a few of our spare markers ... Always better to have shot a marker before deciding that is the brand/type of marker you feel comfortable with. Us being a Planet Eclipse team, I can recommend the Etha as a great starter option ... But like I said, try different markers for yourself before making a final decision.
