need to get hold of Tank for an exit
So I'm reading all about TV this, and TV that, and the only thing that comes into my mind is:

"It's all too soon"

Now I'll say at this point that I haven't been to any of the US tourneys, especially the new crop - X-Ball, Super 7's etc, so I don't know what they're like, but is paintball really in the right state for television? If we get TV now/very soon, will the pressures from the networks/outside sponsors become too great and cause paintball to implode?

Are we organised enough to run proper televised sporting leagues?

For example, where is the players register so that players are tied to teams, and can run proper transfers through the seasons (does X-ball have a proper player register scheme?)

What about one rule set the world over? OK, the nppl/millennium rules are pretty much accepted for 7-man, but should we have the same rules the world over so when people see televised paintball, they know exactly the way it works.

Are the governing bodies around the world in contact enough with each other for paintball to truly become a global phenomena?

Personally, I'd be more than happy to pass up the TV glory for paintball for a few more years, and have all that effort spent on sorting out the internal politics, rules, organisations, etc etc.

I did?

Oops!

I reckon that Tyg posted that one when I was in the middle of some coursework, back in my uni days, and didn't have time to read the forums ;)

And as was mentioned, my post was way too short to be one of Tygers anyways. :D

I just want people to convince me that we're ready for being telly stars or not. :p

I think paintball is in a pretty good situation to be televised. Something needs to be done to make the game exciting for JoeBlow, but outside of the actual playing, I think it is a quite interesting state. Like the fight at the MidlandMasters the other week.... that would have made AWESOME tv, like when Eric Cantona kicked that spectator dude, everyone was talkin about it because it wasnt expected. Also, certain teams having reps, and all that make it all a bit more interesting for everyone, like the bad boys in wrestlin and what not, people love a villain. It isnt just the playing that needs to be televised, its everything else aswell, and that would be very hard to get right.

not really my opinion, mostly Jose Guervo doin the talkin, so go easy on me....

Yup, you hit that right on the head.

So what's to stop a a little sideline action showing Lasoya trying to bite Robbo's ear off and Chris end up getting damn near "kilt" for even getting within 2ft" of Robbo's face.....of course chains and such may play a significant part in this, or a reason there of. :)

Bite me. :p :D ;)

And paintball still isn't ready. Two little words. "Media coach".

People say I'm too harsh, but a sports beat writer who gets "Yeah." as every answer to his questions will be a heck of a lot meaner.

Any you can't ruin my mood, I got my KP-2 back, it's been re-finished, It's got a tactical sling on it, and I'm playing paintball tomorrow. So there. Nyah. :p

Ok, this is a very good point that's been raised, and i want to add to it.

Everyone assumes that when paintball gets on TV it will be the best thing ever!
More people will start playing the spot, kit will become cheaper, and we will finally get some recognition for what we do on the weekend by our non-paintballing peers.

But as great as this sounds, it's comes as a cost;
If paintball becomes televised, what will happen to the tournament format? Will it be changed to make it better to watch on TV?
If more players start playing because of the media coverage, what's going to happen to the players who play now? Some kid gets excited about paintball, and spends the time to get good, but what happens if he gets better than you? Are you guys prepared to watch these kids come up from nowhere and kick your ass? Cause they're going to do it, and all your experince counts for nothing, in the face of youthfull determination.
Are you prepared to become a minority within the sport you love?

Personally i don't think Tournament paintball is ready for TV. If you play paintball on a competitive level, then x-ball is entertaining, for the first hour or so. But if you don't play, it's ****ing boring as hell. You can't see the paint, you have no idea of what's happening, basically it only appeals to players.
So you know when NBC and Dick Clark Productions and all that get in on it, they're going to have to do something to make it interesting!

However i think that Big game paintball is the way to go. It is interesting to watch, proper celebraties play it, and it's got a story line and varying visuals that you could watch in a half hour program.

My 2cents of course, it's just the way i see it.

Its a fair point Col. My Girlfriend and I were talking about this last night, I guess the whole thing would have to be tied in with multiple camera shots including overhead, player/field map, action replays of key eliminations, meaning the whole thing could never be aired live.
But think of the interaction that could be added, player cam, you could select a split screen where on one each half you have 2 players snap shooting against each other, the technologies there, hell we've seen it on these forums on 'dan cam' was it?? or maybe rather then interaction this type of format could be used for snap shooting action replys.
I think the oppertunities are endless but clearly its gonna take whole lotta money and time invested to make it interesting for Joe public, IMO thus far NO dvd/video that I've seen is interesting to anyone but us and even I think most the DVD's/Vids are crap!
