I thought that Airsoft guns weren't classified as airguns because the weight of their projectile/muzzle velocity equation made them exempt?Originally posted by Mario
technically no, as it is classed as an airgun and so is subject to the same laws as an airsoft gun. This means it should be carried in a secure bag or box etc etc. Legally you can be done for up to 5 to 10 years for carrying your marker in public. All it takes is one finickity policeman....
Anyways, Mario is right to say airsoft guns can't be carried uncovered in public tho as they are a 'replica weapon' and Mario is definitely right to say that paintball markers must be in a bag/box in a public place because they ARE classified as an 'airgun'.
Incidentally, another bit of the Act says that if you are aged 14, 15, or 16 you cannot carry even a covered marker (airgun) in public. There was an amendment (New Clause 13) to this which i think was proposed in June 2003. This proposed allowing "the carriage of an unloaded airgun by a young person only on the strict condition that the airgun is in a securely fastened gun cover, and that the young person is travelling directly to or from a place where he can lawfully use it or where it has been kept on his behalf". (young person means anyone aged 14, 15, or 16 for the purposes of New Clause 13)
I'm not sure if this is now law or not???? Anyone know????
EDIT: And whilst on the subject...even if you are an adult and your marker is in a bag you must not TRESPASS any land or building (eg take a short cut across farmer joes allotment) or this constitutes 'armed trespass' and then you're in trouble! Mind you if it went to court the CPS would look pretty silly with 'exhibit A' one pink autococker with fluffy bottle cover owned by dappy pigtailed redhead. hardened criminal eh?
