I went to Honduras about 10 years ago on a church mission trip to help with some projects they had going on down there. It really opened my eyes when I visited. The country was beautiful and the people were extrememly friendly. However, the living conditions were not so good. They lived in small houses made of sticks and packed mud. The houses were roughly 15x15 foot dome shaped houses that slept families of 4-8 people. The toilets were holes dug in the ground with cement slabs over the top of the hole with a cement block as the seat. Plus, these were out in the open with no walls surrounding them. The kids played football in fields that were shared with cows and horses and the kids just ran through the cow patties like they weren't even there. The water was filled with bacteria and disease carrying amobeas. Yet, these people were happy because they appreciated what they had. Makes you think a little doesn't it.
