I was on an annual policy as I was away a year. I claimed for a curtailed flight due to a death in the family and some stolen property, both were dealt with without fuss and pretty promptly too. I just wrote them a letter saying what happened, copy of death cert in one and police report in other and they sent back a cheque, didn't even query or try and get out of it as often insurance companies do (I know I used to work for one!)

I agree with TonyF - I really don't see how they would class paintball as a professional sport - especially considering the other things listed in that exclusion, plus it's specifically listed in the included section.

'Adventure sports which cannot be covered: Air travel (other than as a fare paying passenger), Base jumping, Boxing, Cliff diving, Competitions ..."

That's the word in the exclusions that worries me! The whole purpose of the trip is to enter a competition.

Fair point, might be worth a phone call. They were always helpful when I've contacted them. Like I said - I haven't used them to claim for paintball, and it was incidental to my round the world trip, so I never had to press the idea.

Try this company http://www.hbinsurance.co.uk/ they also allow you to tailor your insurance to allow for more cover on your equipment ie instead of £500 on any one item you can increase it also they can even cover you for playing paintball itself or just leave it as it is and just cover your equipment waiting for a quote from them but the basic cover is about £25

Here a link for the summary of their travel insurance policy http://www.hbinsurance.co.uk/polici...aryofcover.html hope it helps

This was taken from another thread that i posted on earlier in the year so the policy amy have changed since then ;)

I'm waiting on H B Insurance coming back to me with a quote. No policy i have found so far will include paintball if you are entering a tournament OR if it is the main reason for your trip, which let's face covers about about 95% of us who play paintball abroad! I suppose we could lie, but if an ambulance was called to a paintball site where a competition was taking place it could be hard to blag it... Maybe it's a bit like the airlines... what they don't know in advance won't harm them! lol!

HB are going to see if a tailor made policy can be done... i'll let you know :)

OK Guys. I THOUGHT i had it sorted and took out an insurance recommended in a PM to me. I told the company i was going to be playing PAINTBALL, that i would be entering a COMPETITION and that it was the MAIN REASON for my trip (no point in being lumbered with a multi-thousand hospital bill if the insurance turns out to be void, having worked in underwriting i know the angles). So they said i'd be covered, they took my payment and sold me the policy but then when i read the small print it EXCLUDED Paintballing if it is the MAIN reason for the trip. Crafty buggers i thought so i rang them to ask for this exclusion to be removed. The said it was impossible but they would refund my premium. So, quite lucky i'm a small-print person really. :(

I followed up the other leads on this thread and was told either 'we don't cover paintball' or 'we dont cover competitions' by all but one, who were very helpful. As 'Useless' said (and proving he is definitely NOT useless) ;) HB insurance DO tailor policies to meet your requirements. They charge a bit more for the priviledge but then i'd prefer a policy that covers me in all circumstances rather than leaving it to chance.

My policy schedule actually includes the words, Paintball tournament 'Nation Cup' for included activities. Their baggage cover is a bit better than most single trip policies too with £1500 personal effects, £1000 sporting goods (not enough but i've split it between bags so if it goes missing hopefully i wont lose the lot!) plus personal accident cover, hospitalisation benefit, hospital/medical costs and should i get hung for possessing a firearm in Malaysia the nice insurance company even fly my remains back to Blighty. It's all so sooper dooper!! :p

BTW if the worst happens can we have front page of PGI? We'll try to wear our team tops for the execution. It'd be great for the Tsunami Media File :) Cheers :D

Blimey does that mean i can change my name now too USEFUL lol:D

Anyway the pther good thing about HB is that if you wish you can take out a insurance poliy to cover your playing equipment anywhere in the world and it also covers it if you break anything whilst play ball aswell worth a look if you as me.

Now i know some people have that type of cover on their house hold insurance but its just another bit of USEFUL information for you all ;)
