It obviously helps being an old git/old skool player, used to pumps & 12g in the 80's  But even youngsters are turning onto pump, and seeing a different (more fun) side to the game.

Who knows Robbo - you may even get a chance to break out your trusty phantom, and shoot paintballs in mid air like you did at one of our training days?

I dont understand why you would want to get rid of xball. true, it was made for tv, but its still the best format i have ever played. The reason a format came around shouldnt be the reason to get rid of it, xball is in my veiw funner than most other formats( i say most as i have not played the F5 and therefore cannot comment)

  1. The best is something everybody aspires to achieve, but very few can attain
  2. Maybe the best format but can you really afford to play it month after month

Outside general life changes, I quit tourney ball a few years back due to the absolute lack of value I found in it. I always found time spent training and improving my skills far more rewarding than paying nigh on 100 quid for a tournament and getting feck all trigger time and having to put up with a multitude of BS attitudes and politics. I'm in the process of getting back into things currently and although I'll miss the competitive angle I'd far rather do walk-ons, scenario games and relaxed events like NPF's Sup-Air Sunday.

Have been playing paintball on and off for the last 19 years and in recent years this does give far more trigger time than any other events I have played. Yes it was a knackering and a bit more expensive, but this could be a way forward.

Hopefully see you all there in may.

I have only read a few points. But I think you are wrong.

With being at a site nearly every weekend and seeing teams coming in and out I am getting a very warm feeling about things.( no I have poo'd my pants again)

I have noticed the past few months there is a real competiveness with teams now and teams and players are actually training and there is a real sense of teams wanting to win.

I only have a north person’s point of view but this time 2 years ago we didn’t really have a team who wanted to go places and had a passion for winning, but this has changed now.

We have now training together week in week out Manchester Firm Disrupstion and Method I know down south you have tigers nexus,

These teams in my opinion now are really trying to shake off the UK teams are pants and getting on with it, I know that us method disruption are really up for it and seeing what they are putting in week in week out I do really think that something is going to change maybe not this year but I can see "grass roots" coming, and I do think that as well it is rubbing off a bit on other teams as well when they see us all training at the cpps site teams are asking all the time now "can we come along" can we train with you"

I might be totally wrong and I don’t think I am but let's see.

from my point of view, i guess it comes down to the fact that because uk ball is pretty small, and we are now more wrapped in the european blanket, the whole unification of formats and rules is the biggest part of tournament ball! I'm not against the reasoning behind the F5, but is it a positive step in the sense that it is unlikely to be a competitive regular format??!

Xball isnt the cheapest format, think thats been established, but it costs supprisingly little extra per player than normal 5 man tournie!

I have no real urge to play the f5, as i find xball suits the way i want to play, and as most people who want to play competitively across the country will want to stick to it also!
Plus i do not see the f5 taking off across the paintball scene in a big enough way to make a difference! maybe it has a place for those wishing to play it, but for competition ball, i see xball is here to stay now!

I have to agree with markie's post regarding the uptake of teams training, with a view to down south, bricketwood is busy as hell most weekends now, and the level of play has increased across the board in the past 2 years massively, i think people are taking it more seriously!

Some people seem to have got the wrong end of the stick. Just to be clear, aside from the deliberately provocative title, this isn't an anti-Xball or anti-5 man article. Sure there are features of both I dislike, but I'll happily play either. It's not an either/or situation, I'm certainly not advocating the end of existing formats or ragging on the tournament player/team scene, rather trying to promote a new format which if you try, I think you'll like.

markie - the article doesn't mention anything about the tournament 'scene' itself being a problem, or the professionalism and dedication of players or teams.....but it probably helps to read the whole thing ;)

essx - if you like Xball, you're likely to love F5. It should really be renamed as Xball plus, or Xball extreme. It's the same concept just taken to the next level, with less waiting around and more playing.

I was very skeptical of this format before i played it and the only reason i played was that i was draged there but since that i saw the potential of this format.
I dont see how anyone can form an opinion without actualy playing it first of all its basicaly Xball taken to the next level without the delays and timeouts in between.
Once you start you dont stop for 15 mins and you have 10 players .
I remember when paintball was in the woods if people never tried sup air we would not have xball now but look at what has happened to our sport since the fields have gotten down to postage stamp size and the games are lasting avg 90 secs add to this people getting shot off the break and its even less game time, watching as a spectator its boring because there is no objective other than to shoot the opposition a fast as you can with the central button system in F5 you have an objective in the game other than shooting the oposition so a lot more strategy comes into play even at this early stage i could see teams trying different strats.
I would love to see 2 top teams going head to head on this that would be good to watch espcialy with a comentator comenting on it .
All im saying if you dont try it you dont know what your missing .

I'm not trying to put the idea down, my question is really this.....do we need another potential format, that is unlikely to be accepted across europe to come into the uk when we are only just getting the formats the people play now regulated to some kind of level!?

I for one have always liked the idea that people can play whatever style they choose to in order to have fun! But when it comes to a competitive format that people wish to train, and really attack, i believe the xball format to be the one we have the most chance of organising, regulating and playing to the best possible level.
