Yeah, it's a little bit like a mag with a spool valve

Actually, it's similar to the version of the shocker that SP patented, as opposed to the shocker they actually sell. Clearer yet?

It's basically a spool valve, except the bolt is driven forward (and the valve opened) by the pressure that fires the ball. Then low pressure from the solenoid returns the bolt and holds it there until next fired. Look in the stickies in the ICD forum on pbnation (*spit*) - there's an animation of how the internals work.

But that thing is helluva fugly.
