So I recently got back into the sport and have just been playing rec-ball once a month with an Ion….and really enjoying it.
But now I’m starting to eye up Ego’s and Angles and let’s be frank they ain’t cheap… So my question is: Does the performance of these markers really justify the cost and are they expensive to maintain? Is an Ego really at 5 times the cost of the ion 5 times better ….
Plus it still looks like if I buy one of these wage eaters you still need to upgrade the normal things like barrels ….
Any comments welcome?

Regards,

Paul

You will find that the Angel for sure is very easy and cheep to maintain. (Basically just a clean and a drop of oil every half dozen thousand shots) with the Ego really being no different. Ion is a bit fiddly with the internal airlines and does not really like that much oil being put in the ASA, due to it clogging the marker, but is a great marker for the price. Yes it will basic keep up with the high-end markers but markers are personal and your preference comes first.

Go try some out at training days and some walk-ons then make up your mind.

Me .. Well being sponsored by WDP and loving there markers what do you think I will say?

End of the day paintball is no different to any other sport when it comes to kit. Will having the latest top of the line golf clubs make you a better player? Will the most expensive fishing gear catch you more fish?

No to both of them unless your at the top of the sport yourself.

Personally they are better looking for a start; the trigger feels so much better than on the Ego and not ten a penny like the Ego.

Far more bling for your money.. But still put the Angel first..

And there has bin so little change in the Ego over the last year or two, realy still look and work just the same.

I think the quality and speed and maintenence do justify the price. But if you can pick an ion up for 1/8th of the price why not is does the same thing, but you just dont get hte quality.

I also started with an Ion, then picked up a Timmy and Ego(s). An Ion in skilled hands is still likely to beat the high end marker.

An Ion gives an accessible entry point, can be upped, and allows people to play rather than invest £££ in a high end marker. Allowing more money to be directed on tournies etc

Get the bug... and you'll be drawn to the higher end stuff (finances permitting)

But developing the core skills, snapping, running & gunning etc are what differentiates players, not the guns (imho)
