Hello all im very new to the game and have a question i need answering about the Tippmann A-5, before i decide on weather to purchase one ?

ok ...

As far as im aware the A-5 features differant modes of fire, one of them being "Full-Auto", but doesnt that mean the gun/marker is illegal, as to the best of my limited knowlage on the subject, Full-Auto markers are illegal under UK law ???

So are A-5 markers bought/sold in the UK limited to semi-Auto, or do they feature all the differant fire modes including Full-Auto ?

any info would be appreciated :)

i believe oens with e-grip can have full auto, but aslong as you dont fire it outside nd dont use fthe full auto function you will be fine.

the response trigger fires the marker for every trigger pull, and trigger release.
I dont thnk they are allowed in tournements? or that mght be the e-grip? i really dont know.

But really, if you wanting something that fires fast. then buying a tippmann A5, then spending money on it on upgrades such as the response trigger and e-grip really isnt worth the effort when there are markers out htere that fire faster, and probably cost the same amount as a new/secondhand A5 + upgrades.

If, however, you want it to look "real" like for senario/woodsball. then have you thought about an SP8? they look like real world rifles, and have a much higher rate of fire than a tippy.

e-grip is the way to go though, if your adiment on getting an A5 :) also,
Tinfish has one for sale, check the classifieds ;)

excellent :)

So the E-Grip is illegal.

would anyone here happen to know if the tippmann "Response Trigger" is legal or not ?
E-grip is not illegal to own, but you won't be able to use it in full auto-mode at any sites or games in the UK.

You will be able to use the other e-grip modes supplied with the e-grip [except 3 round burst].

Response is legal too, but in my view not as useful or flexible as e-grip.

If you're looking for a woods/scenario marker that offers a ramping mode and semi out of the box, then the advice previously given of getting an SP8 is sound.

you and Killcrazy made some interesting comments, and i'll certainly look into the SP8.

getting back to the A-5 though, from what you guys have posted, the E-Grip seems a bit dodgy, as the Full-Auto and 3 round burst options are a no go at sites,
I hear what you guys saying is legal to own an E-grip,but i think ill stay on the safe side and give the E-Grip a miss till i learn more about the sport and its rules/regulations.

So all that leaves is the Response Trigger, so my next question to you chaps is, is the Response trigger going to get me rejected from playing walk-on's at sites, i mean from what i have read so far the response trigger kinda simulates Full-Auto, albeit that it functions differantly from an E-Grip it still increases the guns rate of fire for up to 15-balls per second (AFAIK)

Would this get me into bother with the marshals/site admin, is the response trigger a well known and accepted piece of kit when playing walk-ons ?

theres no point buying one, only to have the marshals telling me i cant use it.

thx for the info guys its much appreciated :)

Tinkering ain’t easy
I have seen a lot of guys using the response trigger and its never been a problem

As long as your not bullyinh little kids into submition with your firepower then the sites will be ok with it. If you want to make sure ring your local site and ask if they allow tippies with a response trigger to play, im sure they'll say as long as its below 280fps and not fully auto then they'll allow it

Mooching round the 50, with the flag
most aftermarket boards (and a few stock ones) include modes that are 'illegal' or to be more correct can't be used in the UK, don't sweat it, if you had an e-grip and were running a std semi mode you would not have a problem.

The site that I play at allows ramping on walkon days so the other modes can get a look in.

It very much depends on the rules for each walkon/scenario and who is enforcing them. Different games and sites have different rules, but none allow full auto.

Response trigger is a grey area. Some of them are so finely tuned that they end up firing with similar rates of fire as full auto.

I've seen people removed from play at walkons and scenario games for using a well tuned response trigger and made to adjust it. It very much depends on where you play.

E-grip is a better option in my view, as you can change mode. I had my e-grip in 'response' mode at Staargate last year but was told I was exceeeding the allowed ROF. I simply flicked a switch to semi-auto and carried on.

My e-grip has full auto option [as does my SP8 as I have a custom US board]. I have never had any problems with any sites or big games other than the response issue at Staargate. As long as you stick to the game rules, you will be fine. Some places I play are semi-only, so i stick the SP8/A5 in semi mode and play. Others allow ramping, so I use a ramping mode.

If you play by the specific rules of the game/site, I find that nobody really cares what your gun *may* be capable of. For example your marker can probably fire at 380 feet per second, but most game limits are 280 FPS. As long as you stick to 280 then you won't get into trouble.

E-grip or SP8 equivalent makes conforming to game rules easy as you just put the marker in whatever mode is permitted and just get on and play.
