Yes, the difference between a marker and a real gun, is that you can't use anything more than 300fps, so extending your barrel beyond 14" is just wasting energy, you have to put more gas in the pipe to overcome the friction just to achieve the same velocity as a shorter barrel......... in a real gun you'd increase the charge further and use the extra distance in the barrel for acceleration beyond 300, increasing accuracy and range. It's the TV thing again..... everyone "knows" that longer barrel is more accurate and has greater range....... when in fact a longer barrel is there to use and control greater power.
It's like the "knockback" effect of firearms...... the majority of people still believe that a shotgun will knock you three feet backwards and a magnum will backflip you through a window. You watch it enough on TV, it gets to be "fact".

Totally agree guys. You get all these people like "my 28 inch barrel gives me more range than you" etc etc which is just bull****. All paintball markers (with a few exceptions) shoot the same range with teh same kinda sized barrel.

Also btw the legal velocity for a paintball marker is 330fps not 300fps as 330fps brings the force exerted by the projectile to be over 12lb/ft which there for brings it into a air weapon catagory.

300fps is used because it is more reconised and is just generally more excepted.

Debateable as to what the legal limit is (if ramping is fine, then there aint one, if we can go auto without repercussions then the firearms act can't apply..... jury is still out)...... but 300 fps as a guide gives plenty of space for velocity spikes and variation in paintballs. 300 is just the velocity we've accepted as a sport/passtime.

Weird case really..... you can't get a straight answer from anyone. But the PA are sure ramping is ok (and they've checked), if ramping is ok, then firearms act doesn't apply, so lots of other stuff starts to make sense. Like anyone being allowed to buy a marker depending on whether the retailer decides to adhere to the firearms regs. (Rather than having to because it's the law).
