i know theres been a couple of threads b4 but nothing came from them apart from some complaints.

WE as a community need to do something about the silly prices HIGH end markers are going for.

for example an 05 speed for £270, wtf, then there was someone trying to haggle it down to £250 even more WTF.

anything under £400 for a Ego is just plain rediculous same with newer timmys and shockers and espesecially EG06's new shokers and event the new angels
(talking about when the new gats come out and the "old ones" get replaced)

now with resepct to this we need somesort of guideline inplace for these sorts of markers so c0cky little sh1tz dont get them for below the belt and tell there mates about it so the prices get ever lower untill it comes to what happened to Eblades.

no one tell me about the ion having an impact cause the ion DOES NOT affect YOU selling YOUR marker. if someone wanted an ion theyd go buy one not look around for a high end reasonably priced seconhand marker. when i first started out i didnt see an A4 go for less thatn £400 and that was only in march when i started playing

the guide lines should be simple. if its a year out of date, half price your gat from the original RRP, if its 2 years out of date 1/3 price of the orignal RRP, simple and effective- BUT only if every one who wants to sell a marker does this. ofcourse there ae always going to be acouple of Ego's going for £300 cos the seller needs cash fast, but just because he does doesnt mean you have to lower your price and this is how the market crumbles.
dont believe me, look at Halo's, theyre STILL going for reasonable prices because noone has sold them for a quick sale.

your thoughts and suggestions welcome :)

economics..

Little Gair,

It's a simple case of supply and demand, there's no real demand for 2nd hand guns, whereas there is a demand for HALOs. Mainly because with HALOs there is no cheap equivalent, unlike 2nd hand high end gats where a buyer could just go buy a brand new Ion.

wheres the incentive for the buyer to pay a higher price?

fair enough you could try fixing prices at an articially high level, but i think all that would do would be drive the potential 2nd hand buyers elsewhere.. probably towards a new cheaper gun, and then all the sellers would be left with nice shiny markers they couldn't sell... which i think was the reason why prices started to come down in the 1st place...

been done mate

i think there are these options:

1: Only buy 2nd hand - so then you dont lose as much

2: If you buy new, use the gun for a whole season. then that ~50% price loss doesnt seem so bad. if you lose £300 on a marker in a season, its not that bad.

3: Get sponsored so you get a cheaper marker, use it for the year and sell at less of a loss

fwiw maybe the reason is that for every 9 people that buy a marker full price (eg speed 05) one person gets one for nearly nothing off WDP, then sells when the next marker comes out (apporx 3 days later). seeing as they paid little, they can sell for significantly less than someone who paid top dollar would wish to sell for. hence the frustration and annoyance and everyone perceving the 2nd hand value to be £XXX

I could not agree more if I tried.

The prices for 2nd hand stuff now is a joke, a very expensive to the seller JOKE.

I have just sold my back-up cocker for a really low price, now on this occasion I don't actually mind because it will help a younger player upgrade to a decent gat so he will continue in our sport.

But come on, I have also recently bid on some stuff SLIK is selling just to force the price up to a respectable level, right now I am still the highest bidder but at least the price is now only "GOOD" and not "stupid".

what does not help is when you try and sell a marker is that what ever price you put for it some smarta*se who has no intention of buying it will add to the post. saying you can get an ION for less and it will shoot as good as any high end marker etc and why pay that when you can get a brand new marker for half the price. so you are on to a loser straight away. (voice of experiance).
if they are not going to buy it, BUT OUT!! let people make up there own minds.

dont get me wrong i a have an ION and for what you pay for one it is a good gun but it will always be my back up.

its not just on markers but any paintball equipment you try an sell on to help some other player. someone will always add apost knocking the price.

the only good thing about the 2nd hand marker market (for the buyer that is) is you can pick up some good bargins. just wish some of these items had been around when i started playing (many moons ago) would have saved a lot of money.

Actually, there is nothing at all we as customers can do.

The manufacturers are to blame.

The gun market is starting to resemble the mobile phone market, where manufacturers put out a new model every 3-4 months.

THAT is what creats the downward spiral in the 2nd hand market.

If WDP, SP, etc. only came out with a new model once a year, people would not be selling their guns so rapidly, and the 2nd hand market would not be drowning in guns 3-6 months old.

Nothing to be done, except by the manufacturers, which won't happen as long as they are so competitive - so... just learn to live with it.

It's called supply and demand; quite simply, any item is only worth what someone wants to pay for it and the more of the items that are available the cheaper the resale will be. I know technology is moving fast these days, but the simple fact that you feel your marker is no longer up to the job you want it to do means that it's not worth that much to anyone else either. And if your marker is so great and worth so much, why are you selling it? Presumably because it's no longer good enough for you to be competetive against the newer stuff, so why should someone else want it so badly.
A new car depreciates around 25% when you first drive it off the forecourt, but if a new version comes out within a couple of months that depreciation suddenly becomes 40%. But don't blame the manufacturers, if you must all be marker whores and get the latest everything you can't blame them for bringing out a new one every year or 6 months - they know that half of you will buy it so it's well worth it for them as they are in it to make money, not to make it easy for you to sell on your old gun at a decent price.

Companies aren't doing anything unethical really. If they can sell hordes of new markers every time they release a new model every 3 to 6 months, they are simply catering to the demand of the market. If everybody wasn't in such a hot hurry to sell off their 2 month old gun when the "latest thing" comes out, then companies wouldn't release new models in such short spans. If we all stopped bitching about the second hand market and started not buying the latest and greatest every 2 months then your whole problem dissapears. There's not enough new players coming into the game to buy the used gear from every gun whore who has to upgrade every 3 days, so the used market gets saturated with markers and not enough buyers. So, the economic principles of the free market take effect, price competition occurs, and sellers have to offer a buyer greater incentive to buy their product than the competitor's. Unless of course, the sellers all engage in price fixing, like you're suggesting, which would take total cooperation from every single person selling used gear, and would force more of the current buyers to the mid or low end market instead, and only leave the sellers of high end gear with even more guns they can't sell. It's not really anybody's fault, and there's not really much anybody can do about it. Just live with it. The solution is to be happy with the marker you've bought and keep it for more than two weeks instead of worrying about it's resale value the day you buy it.

doesn't mean you have to buy a gun every three or four months though does it !!!

If people are stupid enough to trade in a £1,000 shooter for £300 just because a new version has a new grip or a little bell that rings every time you shoot it or perhaps has the weight of Bowens dick milled off the side ( not much, at all ) then thats their problem, not the manufacturer, the manufacturer is just giving options - you would all get bored of the same guns if they only bought a new gun out every 12-18 months.

By having these super low prices you're making it more attractive for a new player to join the sport - you would all be pi$$ed if no more new players started because guns were too expensive wouldn't you.

bottom line is, if you can't afford to sell your gun for peanuts then just keep it - 99% of gun software can be upgraded anyway to keep up with the newly released shooters

i wonder, is it because we are such a small community over here that we feel the need to gripe over how much 2nd hand kit costs.

Looking at Pbnation prices it seems about equal to me.

The fact is, its mostly brits on here and were all selling between each other. Everyone wants the best bargain so people push the envelope. I admit some people take the piss but thats life boys.

Stop wanting the newest gun and selling your old stuff. Ive had my ego since last year and i doubt that ill change it this year.
