It got mentioned in another forum that I was out last night with Sergei Leontiev, Captain and owner of the Russian Legion.
Well, I took my other half over to London's west end, met up with him and a couple of others for a meal and it was like 5 hours of paintball, paintball, paintball.
He scavenged my head as I scavenged his, not sure who learnt the most but I suspect it was me.
The point of this post is to give you lot some idea what some people are doing when it comes to paintball.
As we all know, the Russian Legion are the most dedicated and sophisticated team when it comes to training, now I am not going to go into too much detail because it will go to make up an article in PGI next month but consider this :-

The Russian Legion now train, six days of the week, after work they do fitness training and technique schedules with Saturday being an extended session for whatever Sergei deems necessary.
I will make this prophecy, which ain't too risky and it is also on the back of Sergei telling me his plan for the future,'These guys will eventually rule the world of paintball and there ain't a damn thing we, or anybody else is going to be able to do about it'.
Seems a bit far fetched ?
Well, if you read my article next month, you'll find out why it isn't such a wild assertion.
And you know what I say ?
'Facking good luck to them coz it couldn't happen to a better team, a better team in every department of professional play and behaviour' !!
Interesting times are ahead, that's for sure :)

Hardcore training!

Hey Robbo,

I don't suppose Sergei happened to mention how many boxes of paint his team munch there way through a week do they? Not trying to cause offense but i heard a rumour that the American pro teams are going through 100 cases a week in training! Now as i say i only heard that through the grape vine so its probably a vastly inflated figure but still.....

It makes you wonder how an up and coming team will be able to progress here in the UK. Fair enough in the states an up and coming team with potential gets spotted and rewarded (see that young team featured in PGI who after a good result New Orleans open had the spondsers lining up!)
However here i Britain (an i suspect elsewhere in Europe) spondsers have to see consistancy and proven ability before commiting themselves to a team. (Thats not a dig at spondsers by the way they have to put there interests first!) That can mean that a decent players will either be lured away to teams with help in place or not be able to progress to there best cus they can't afford it.
By your own words you have said that Russian Legion have got where they are by religiously training hard which enevitably costs money. Question is will there ever be another team that will consistantly be able to beat Top American teams without some SERIOUS big time backing?

By the way this is not an attempt to get people all over my case. If you disagree with me cool. If you think my points are stupid also cool. I'm far to laid back to argue but i will defend my corner if i think your opposing argument is flawed:)

Millhouse, the "rumour" you refer to is Dynasty. They play all day Sat and Sun plus during the week and go through (and I quote) "at least 100" cases a week.

It's free because one of the guys (Angel?) dads own Great American paint.

The other US teams go through a lot, but not that much.

Oh, and getting back on Topic I think that RL's time is long overdue.

Just seeing the reaction when each Ava player got shot in their finals game in the 'dam showed they were the most popular team there.

Respect :)

I hope it all works out for the Russkies.
It was a pleasure watching these guys play over in Amsterdam. From what I could see, they had no superstars like every American team seems to have one or two of, but, I said this before, these guys are a team in the most true sense of the word. They way they are all in tune with each other is incredible. Plus they have a certain 'je ne sais quoi' that makes them a pleasure to watch. I enjoyed watching them more than I enjoyed watching the likes of Avalanche, or SC Ironmen, or whatever.

So best of luck to them.
