I would argue that most sponsors value selling products over winning. Although a winning team shifts products nonetheless. Warped Sports did its best business i believe when the old Lanche were winning
You could say that or you could say it was when they had Rocky and Lasoya playing for them and they both had signature series guns from Warped
Lasoya sells gats... end of story... irrelevant of the fact that a $1500 marker in a 15 year old kids hand isn't going to make him a superstar he percieves that if 'insert big name here' puts there name to it then it gives them an edge
I think the reason Warped maybe aren't selling as much now (if that is the case) is that I couldn't name one person on the team? Apart from Ed who is a 'household' name
no disrespect meant by that there obviously a good team.
You need a team though with recognisable players in it for it to work in the sponsors favour. I don't think this comes down to just skill though. I think there are better players out there than Lasoya, yet I voted for him. The reason being is that put his picture, or even a picture of him with a blacked out lense in his goggs and you would probably still recognise him from the ponytail, same as you would Cagoni before he lost the mad mop
A sponsor wants a good ROI from a player/team. To do this you can either have a team full of people that no one recognises that well but win events giving them a good ROI. Or you can have a good team with a big name on it and they will get recognition.
At the minute from a publicity/exposure point of view any big name player that gets you press is a good move, even someone like Jeremy Salm...
