Yup, a nutter is a nutter, doesn't matter what he's firing. If thay can't get a paintball marker, they'll just use an air pistol. Funny really, as a drive by with a gun is "gang activity" whereas a drive by with a marker is "a paintball incident". We don't need to justify the correct use of other things, so why paintball? Knife manufacturers don't get stick over stabbings, or pool cue manufacturers over thumpings. Weird.

Well the problem with that is that im assuming 100% of civilized people know what butter knives and wood are used for...So if ya get a random butter knife stabbing or bashing with a 2x4,most people notch that up as an incident by a psycho with nothing better to do...But paintball markers, looked at by the press, are associated with war games, and kids who have nothing better to do with thier time, hence the bad reputation..Until the sport aspect of our game comes out of the dark, this is the rep we have to live with..But articles like this help, even if just a little...

Yes, and by the same token, anyone with sense knows what a marker is for. But no, we get tarred with the same brush as Eminem (check out 8 mile for paintball stupidity) and jackass. it's just misuse of the kit, nothing to do with paintball. So it's no more "the darker side of paintball" than kicking someone in the nuts is "the darker side of soccer" or clobbering someone with a baseball bat is "the evils of baseball".
Wiping, playing on and hot markers are the darker side of paintball. Drive bys and vandalism is just "the darker side of idiots".
We need to stop the idiots, e.g. £40 plastic paintball markers..... what are they for? you don't see them at legitimate fields in the UK, but hundreds are sold..... so where are they fired? except for the lucky few who have enough private land to fire them legally (in the UK at least). So I'm wondering, who uses them and what for... if there's no legit reason, then why are they available?

The problem with kitchen knives and 2x4s is everybody uses them. so when someone wants to out law knives to prevent stabings or cars to prevent car accidents people laugh at them. but if someone wants to get rid of something like paintballing or put laws on it to restrict most of the general public doesnt even know what it is or anything about it.
