But the kid was held as the flipside they are trying to get away from and goggles thing I don't think is a real big deal over the scheme of the article, but in an ideal world yeah.

Perfection..

It would be nice but this article is a good start..I think it just reinforces the idea that there are 2 sides of paintball and the quicker we establish ourselves as a sport we can can break away from the war games image..The war aspect is always gonna be there and I really dont think its going away but we can at least distance ourselves and articles like this let people see the difference...

I agree its better then the articles you see where something goes wrong and people point the finger at something like paintballing. Its also far better then the articles where kids use paintball markers in drive bys or for vandalsim.

One thing - is to me it's damage limitation.

If you acknowledge the "darker" side of paintball (the violent connatations, the drive-bys etc) in a generally good article like that one it's put into perspective and dismissed.

It also then diffuses the media from putting out whole articles "highlighting" the sports problems which are the damaging ones.

It's all about control of the media (Cue Hotpoint with a relevant quote from some dead greek dude :))

yea once more people start seeing that it is played has a sport and has a hobby aspect people will understand more. I think that most people dont relize its an activity that you could do with your dad like catch. they dont see that people play with their freinds and family. I think that people who havent seen it first hand or at least talked to someone who has they have eithor the military image or the bad kids soing drive bys in their mind.

But thats what articles like the one above help people see that its not all bad and the people who choose to abuse it are a very small percent.

I agree with your "darker side" point but i wish newspapers and other media outlets when saying that so and so was injured or whatever by kids shooting paintball markers at them that they would also point out that this isnt everyone. and people who would do this probly be doing something bad even if they didnt have a marker to do it with.
