Tech manual. Right.

Ok, you take the condom, wrap the open end around your fingers, put the paintball inside, pull back and release.

Wait, you think this is why they're making paintballers use barrel condoms now? Backup if the gun goes down?

Just to get this back on track..

I think markers are about as advanced as they need to be, loaders are coming along nicely, PAINT is the next stage.

How long before someone invents a dimpled ball like a golf ball.. Now that would be an improvement, 3-4x the range and spot on flight characteristics..

The problem of long-range paint slinging will always be down to mass. Paintballs are too light relative to their volume to travel accurately over great distances. A tiny bit of wind-shear and they've missed by several metres

Certainly a truely consistant Paintball would be an advantage but I doubt the aerodynamic advantages offered by dimples would help much in real life

Any thoughts?

Dimples

Didn't i hear about a year ago that dimples were gonna be replaced by hexagons and octagons? Apparantly they make golf balls fly far truer. Same could be applied to paintballs....with a bit of lead inside the fill to add extra weight for a straighter shot and xtra impact!!!!:D

LoL... Yep that would be good for the enviroment, little bits of lead all over the feild.:p :p
The problem with increasing the mass of a paintball is that you need to increase the pressure to propel it the same distance as the lower massed ball. Thus your marker would become an Air-Hog. And dimples wouldnt really help due to the seam having such a strong affect on the flight path of the ball.
Matter of fact why haven't the paintball manufacturers addopted the seam pattern of the tennis ball as that seam pattern actually aids flight properties.

. . . plus the increased mass of the paintball means more energy transferred into the target upon impact (assuming velocity has been increased to maintain range). Make them too heavy and we'll all be clunking around in body armour like X-Fire rejects . . .

Use a heavier fill?
In addition to the other comments above their would also be possible legal implications in the UK to a much heavier fill

Under the Firearms Act the maximum pressure for an unlicensed airgun is 12 ft/lbs. This equates to approx 340fps for a medium weight paintball

A much heavier projectile would require well over the legal limit and we'd all have to get firearms certificates to own markers!
