I grant you, it is brave. I wouldn't wish any ill will on someone who makes a bold move up in divisions. I hope they play well.
As for whether or not they were a novice team last year, we played them at Miami when I guested with Shooters. They were not bad or anything, but they didn't seem pro caliber to me. Maybe we caught them at a time they weren't clicking. Only time will tell. I hope for their sake that they can step it up. It is admirable to skip Am altogether, and I imagine they have the support they need.
EDIT: Just noticed the info on their roster changes. Now it makes sense.
