TEAM GB LION

Warning, this post is a bit image heavy!

I and others have brought the fact that the lion used in the Team GB jersey as supplied by Maxsimum Customs for the EPBF is the wrong one! See the design for 2012 from their Facebook page.

You can see that this design shows a lion stood on it's hind legs (Rampant) with two Crossed Tails. This appears to be a hybrid of lions from various European coats of arms:

a) The Scottish Lion Rampant

b) The Belgian Lion

c) The Czech Lion Rampant with Crossed Tails

d) And The Lion Rampant with Crossed Tails from the Crest of the former Kings of Bohemia

As those of you still with this may of observed, all the lions above are left facing (including the Scottish Lion), except the one on the GB Jersey.

The Heraldic coat of arms for England is the Three Lions (or Leopards) Passant Guardant

And, that for the United Kingdom incorporates both the Scottish Lion Rampant, The Three Lions of England and a Gaelic Harp to represent Northern Ireland.

Those still with me on this one may agree that either by oversight or slight we have been lumbered with the wrong emblem on the Jerseys.

Now the questions are, can this be rectified and what should the design incorporate?

I think the main issue with the emblem or emblems is they represent individual countries NOT GB.

I think we are the only team made up of multiple countries, but then the UKPSF also represents sites/players in all areas of the UK.

Best option would be to ditch the emblem and stick with just the union flag.

I also noticed this and thought their must be a better way for the emblem. Been a GB jersey I personally think that the jersey should have the shield which incorporates the English, Scottish and Gaelic emblems. Although the detail of the design may just be too much for appropriate use on the design.

If it was to use the lion as seen on the English shield then it wouldn't be a GB jersey, it would be english, just like the 'actual' jersey uses a rampant lion this is the Scottish version (not in shape, but as form) so it's not right to use that because in theory it's representing one part of GB. But I'm Scottish so I'm going to say that anyway ;).

Just enlarge the flag? Or add "the lion goes from strentgh to strentgh and get Peugeot to sponsor us"

What about the Welsh?

no room for a sheep on there

plus the belgian lion might eat it

Just like in the composition of the Union Flag, Wales is not represented in the Coat of Arms as, technically, it is a principality, rather than a country.

Just enlarge the flag? Or add "the lion goes from strentgh to strentgh and get Peugeot to sponsor us"
Oh yes, I had forgotten how similar they are.

Maybe, instead of a whole lion the design should be replaced with just a lion's head, or there are other possibilities, a bulldog, or another British icon, a Routemaster bus, cup of tea, telephone box, Spitfire, Mini, Big Ben.

I was looking at the BULLDOG, but I feel this will not look good on a "serious" jersey.
the bulldog is a very english symbol, don't feel it represents scotland or ireland at all tbh. i'd say the design needs to either be all or nothing with the coat of arms, or else it's just going to be representing one country in all honesty.

out of interest, i'll go ahead and assume that it's all english players that are on the squad?
