tapeworm help

my team mate just bought a new impulse and we want to install the tapeworm but the instructions that came with it have pictures that are very different

can anyone help with what we should be doing?

What kind of impulse do you have? Is it brand spanking new from Smart Parts? In what way do you mean it's very different?

yep it's an 03 impulse

the picture in the instructions looks like an 01 model with no foregrip or vertical regulator so it looks strange in what theyre actually removing.. i only see 1 set screw but it seems as if it's locktited in there

I think the picture you're looking at must be one with the foregrip removed, showing the large hole that it would screw into, and the smaller hole for the Voodoo Full Flow thing, which behaves in much the same way that a tapeworm does.

I have to check which way round it is, but I *think* with the 03s you won't need to touch that grub screw and you just screw the tapeworm into the front of the solenoid chamber...

With recent impulses (serial numbers after around 11000) there is no grub screw under the body to remove or replace. Just remove the front cap and the silver plug on the front of the body with a 3/16" allen key and a bit of brute force. Clean the threads of the hole you took the plug out of, to ensure there is no old loctite on them, then put the tapeworm (with well-greased o-rings) into the hole and screw it in. Loctite is not necessary to hold it in place or seal it.

If you're following the current version of the instructions on the SP web site, you only need to follow steps 2,3,4 and 5.

any tips on loosening it? used as much brute force using just hands then wrench and still no cigar

Why not take it to smart parts and get them to do it. At least that way if anything goes wrong with it, your not liable. And really in theory they do know what they are doing with their own guns , so they say

i got it out.. i used a mini torch cuz there was locktite on it
