Would prefer to take it off just in case, better to be safe. I'd send it your way Mikey to give to Tom, but it'll be £10 or so posted so I'll just do it here. If I can't then I'll send it his/your way.

Any more tips as to how to do it rather than if one has to or not?

Definitely do it just in case, I'd hate to get there & be surprised & have to try & do it there & then :(

Get a strap wrench, use hairdrier or a cooks blowtorch to warm up/melt loctite, and make sure the bottle's empty first ;)

The choice is yours, but the issue is that removing regs from bottles is dangerous. You can damage threads and you may get in to the habbit of not replacing the loctite or replacing it incorrectly. In my opinion, bottle regs should be left on bottles. Messing around with anything other than burst discs on air bottles should be left to the professionals. So, my point was more to discourage removing the reg than just saying that "I have got away with it".

You are not doing anything wrong by carrying paintball equipment on a plane (as long as it is in the hold and not hand luggage). It is not illegal in anyway. Just ensure that everything is depressurised (including removing any charge from your marker) and remove burst discs to make doubly sure and to be able to easily prove that the bottle has no pressurised air in it.

Then do not declare anything at the check in desk, because you do not have to - you are not carrying any dangerous or illegal items. Declaring that you have a paintball gun in your bag is just folly... if you say this to a check in clark that has no knowledge about the rules and regs of carrying paintballing equipment then you are just going to cause yourself problems.

We have been stopped once (in Montpellier) and were simply asked to open our bags. We did that and once they saw what we were carrying, they sent us on our merry little way.

Like I said Oddjob, the choice is yours - I just wanted to get these points across because a wider audience than just you or me will read this thread.

Appreciate the response Syd. I might give the airline a call to make doubly sure as I'm not a tech and don't want to mess it up ;)

ive seen more than one attempt to remove a bottle result in the whole lot being binned.....even if the bottle isnt loctited it is very easy to cock up and friction weld the bottle to the reg, just the act of turning the bottle off the reg threads can create a lot of heat and end in disaster.
im not 100% sure of the best way to do it, id probably say find someone who is confident they can separate them successfully rather than attempt it yourself.
as syd said already, damaging the threads is the last thing you want and will render the bottle useless, dont mess with em if you dont know what you are doing

looks like, after oddjob's phonecall with the airline, we dont have to, as syd said... :)

not sure if we have to take the burst discs out though... thinkwe are also going with the option of not informing them what we have :D

taking the burst disc out is probably a good idea, proves it is depressurised...the main reason they dont like air bottles is that they may be under pressure and go pop. the whole remove the bottle from the reg thing is incase you have a half pound of crack stuffed in there (xray machines dont like bottles). id probably say that if you have removed the burst disc you have covered the whole pressure issue and if you have other paintball gear with you (and a copy of pgi to help explain if needed) and are travelling with a group of paintballers you shouldnt have a problem....checking with the airline may be as bad an idea as good if they sudenly get arsey about 'guns'.

Listen to this man, he speaks the truth.. ;) :)

I believe the only airline that it has ever been an issue with is Ryan Air, but i believe that has changed now too.
