I don't know if this has already been tried before or not so here goes. Why doesn't someone make up a scratch team taking the best players in the UK at their positions and bung them together..........get on a plane..............and kick sum ass!

Not saying that a new team should be formed, just like a national call up kinda thing, with players still playing for the teams they came from.
Just would be nice to send over a british team to upset the balance of our good friends (the yanks) constantly rippin it up

Wot u guys think? Or is this the same idea as Nexus?

Yes. As far as I can remember, I think Pete Robinson and a few others pretty much scoured the country having 'open' trials. They certainly didn't just go to established teams and steal players.

However, it's obvioulsy a good idea, one that could be duplicated, but also one that needs a lot of time, money and dedication and that's were things tend to get tricky...

Robbo formed the England X-Ball team thru open trials then I guess the team had a discussion and decided to carry it on playing together thru Nexus.. I think there were a couple of people who didnt want to join Nexus and went back to thier old teams.

Problem with this approach is you need to be able to offer players something to come across I guess... Why would the best players in the country come to a trial for what is in effect a scratch team with no sponsorship and no reputation. I would imagine the reason NeXus have got so much so quickly (sponsorship wise) is due to the fact Robbo must have put some damm hard work in convincing people he could make it a success, the caliber of the players he has with him and also his industry contacts will have aided him somewhat.

I doubt very much wether we will see another 'NeXus' again, purely down to the fact that it will take a catalyst (like the X-Ball) to kick something of this magnitude into being...

Very good point.
Robbo had the opportunity to showcase the players of what was to become Nexus at the IAO X-ball event. So when he approached potential sponsors, it was not as if he came along with a list of people that were complete blanks.

I don't mean it as in like starting another team (as nexus did), I mean it as a national team for example Ronaldo plays for Real Madrid but also plays for Brazil get ma drift?

Why doesn t sum1 put together a team from the UK just to play in International Tourney's rather than one team representing that country have a national team to do it instead!

Yes, well Nexus was/is essentially 'Team England' that was picked and trained for the X-Ball comp...

As for the Real Madrid analogy, I suppose in pball terms, some players would have trouble making commitments to local and millenium style tournies as well as NPPL ones??

Not sure how a new 'Team England' or 'Team UK' or 'Team Scotland' would be put together...?

Plus, as Recoil ststed earlier, there really needs to be the need to do it as there was with the X-Ball.

At the moment, Nexus is pretty much (in terms of backing and positive notoriety) the great UK hope when it comes to challenging the dominance of other nations...

Thats exactly what Nexus was! The guys were just supposed to play a one of tournament (X Ball) then rejoin their teams. This is what happened in the case of the USA and Canada, and the rest. Team USA players went back and played for their previous teams. However instead of rejoiining their previous teams, team England decided to stay together and become Nexus. And this looks like a sensible decision, as they performed superbly in Vegas at the last S7 event. Hope this continues for them
