Yeah, maybe not. But it certainly doesn't present a good image to Euro Team X, especially when they're playing in the US, against Team USA, and the marshalls are Americans. The marshalls shouldn't appear partial in any way. Perception isn't always reality, and reality isn't always perception, but in that situation it definitely isn't helping Euro Team X's confidence in the marshalling.
Sure, I can give you that.

The overseas lot - lets see, that's every team except Team USA and Team Canada, who might as well be Team USA 2. Go figure.
Okay, now here is where I should clarify--when I say overseas lot, I didn't mean everyone. I just didn't want to start picking out names of teams charging the bias because I don't know them all. Plenty of people stated that the refs were on top of things all tournament, both from the US and from overseas. Only a few people from overseas have charged this bias, but I wouldn't start pointing fingers at them because I haven't really kept track. It's just a few people from the overseas lot. Others stated that the reffing was great.

Most Americans are automatically biased towards anything American, no matter what it is. Being an American, I can say that. And I probably would have acted the same before I came to live in Europe - America Rules, and to hell with the rest of ya. Actually, that's more or less what Lasoya told the crowd in Toulouse, "We're 1,2 and 3, and ya'll can eat a d!ck." You can break that attitude down like this: Arrgogance + Ignorance = Complete Twat. But after living over here for the last 2+ years, and seeing everything from the other side, you see that equation played out time and time again. Not to say that we've cornered that market, but we're well known for it worldwide.
Just like most Swedes are automatically biased towards anything Swedish, and most English are automatically biased towards anything English. Doesn't mean they can't ref a good tournament. As far as what Lasoya said, I don't even PLAY over seas and I'm tired of hearing the same broken record play about how all we do is cheat, the refs give us 'extra love', and that we are asses. I'd have wanted to say the same thing in the same situation. It's always "you Americans think you are so great but you are just cheating. If we had fair refs we'd have won...blah blah blah." Then the Americans come over to Country X's home turf, play with their so called fair and superior refs, and STILL bring home (as Chris said) 1, 2, and 3 with only a few American teams in the tourney, and then they still get dumped on...yeah, I'd have said the same thing.

Hmmm.

You don't play over here???? Wow, you seem to know so much about it.
It's just a few people from the overseas lot.
Oh, well there's a big difference there between everyone, and a few guys. And I also said that I heard it from a few guys as well. It wasn't a blanket accusation.
I'd have wanted to say the same thing in the same situation. It's always "you Americans think you are so great
Thank you for proving my point.

Well, since neither one of you saw that match and I did I guess my views take precedence. :) Whatever my opinion however it isn't going to change anyone's mind so how 'bout this---Imagine a World Cup soccer match where one team walks off with ten minutes left protesting the refereeing. How would the sporting world and soccer fans, regardless of national origin, view such behavior? Make whatever excuse you want, it doesn't look good, does it?

And Chris, while there is no excuse for LaSoya's behavior at Toulouse it doesn't justify your blanket condemnation of the Americans either and if you don't think that's what you did re-read your own post.

I have no problems at all with the Euros wanting to win and being frustrated when time after time some American team shows up and takes the big prize but there are probably more constructive ways of trying to turn that around than routinely indulging in whiny, snot-nosed, hatin' on Americans cos they're all arrogant and ignorant while we're sophisticated, understanding and tolerant--not to mention honest, modest and good sportsmen.

I never claimed to be an expert and said from the start that I didn't even see the match. Doesn't mean I don't have an opinion. I read plenty and hear accounts from people on this board and elsewhere.

My statement never said 'everyone from overseas', although it didn't specifically say 'a few guys from overseas' either. I guess if you want to make it sound like you 'got' me on that one be my guest. My statement was that the only complaints I heard about reffing were from people who came over overseas. That is it, didn't say everyone was complaining.

after reading these posts i just wanted to add my 2 cents. i am an american playing on a uk team in the series 2003, a series of local events in central england. i attended toulouse with shockwave 3 and had a great time for playing my first millinium event. i always hear from uk players how much better american teams are.......for never playing at a pro level myself and playing almost all local events.....i dont see it. the skill at sub pro levels is as good in england as anywhere i have ever played.

well just my beliefs.

see yall in sweden :D

Damn!

I hit the back button and lost everything I was typing.

Anyway, I'll suffice to say that:

1. Yes, I wasn't there.
2. It wasn't a blanket shot at the American ballers, but rather a generalization of Americans overseas. You learn a lot about yourself and your own living in Europe, and you really notice how your countrymen act. And after travelling to over 40 countries in the last 10 years, I've seen a thing or two.
3. As for the ballers, there were isolated incidents by more than just LaSoya, but most of the guys were great. However it's still embarrassing and people remember things like that.
4. There's a lot more sportsmanship over here, and that is the thing that I respect the most.

And I'm not looking for anyone to agree with me, or to convince anyone that I'm right. It's just my opinion.

what would happen to a football team if they walked off in the middle of a game?
you can rest assured that the fa or fifa would fine there arses and probably ban them from the competion for a year and.... do an investigation on the game and the ref.
did any of this happen? is there a governing to do this with that sort of power? if not why not?
this was by any standard an international game.

Blabla blaaa

Neil, you wont see a world cup soccer match reffed by anyone from the same nation as one off the teams, and if any reff on any soccer game would start to hi five a player after a Good move he would get his ass kicked. trust me...

Anyway its only 7 days left until the game, we will make a good show and special effects like lights, sounds, and other stuff is planned.

Stockholm will be awesome and the weather looks great!

ps my guess is 14-8 Sweden
