Re: Extra love...
Sure, I can give you that.Originally posted by cjansen
Yeah, maybe not. But it certainly doesn't present a good image to Euro Team X, especially when they're playing in the US, against Team USA, and the marshalls are Americans. The marshalls shouldn't appear partial in any way. Perception isn't always reality, and reality isn't always perception, but in that situation it definitely isn't helping Euro Team X's confidence in the marshalling.
Okay, now here is where I should clarify--when I say overseas lot, I didn't mean everyone. I just didn't want to start picking out names of teams charging the bias because I don't know them all. Plenty of people stated that the refs were on top of things all tournament, both from the US and from overseas. Only a few people from overseas have charged this bias, but I wouldn't start pointing fingers at them because I haven't really kept track. It's just a few people from the overseas lot. Others stated that the reffing was great.Originally posted by cjansen
The overseas lot - lets see, that's every team except Team USA and Team Canada, who might as well be Team USA 2. Go figure.
Just like most Swedes are automatically biased towards anything Swedish, and most English are automatically biased towards anything English. Doesn't mean they can't ref a good tournament. As far as what Lasoya said, I don't even PLAY over seas and I'm tired of hearing the same broken record play about how all we do is cheat, the refs give us 'extra love', and that we are asses. I'd have wanted to say the same thing in the same situation. It's always "you Americans think you are so great but you are just cheating. If we had fair refs we'd have won...blah blah blah." Then the Americans come over to Country X's home turf, play with their so called fair and superior refs, and STILL bring home (as Chris said) 1, 2, and 3 with only a few American teams in the tourney, and then they still get dumped on...yeah, I'd have said the same thing.Originally posted by cjansen
Most Americans are automatically biased towards anything American, no matter what it is. Being an American, I can say that. And I probably would have acted the same before I came to live in Europe - America Rules, and to hell with the rest of ya. Actually, that's more or less what Lasoya told the crowd in Toulouse, "We're 1,2 and 3, and ya'll can eat a d!ck." You can break that attitude down like this: Arrgogance + Ignorance = Complete Twat. But after living over here for the last 2+ years, and seeing everything from the other side, you see that equation played out time and time again. Not to say that we've cornered that market, but we're well known for it worldwide.
