No bursting into flames, just tearing up knees. The latest turf has literally hundreds of thousands of fake blades of grass woven into the turf then covered with beads of rubber. It's got cushion like real grass, excellent footing, great drainage and is very expensive.
That would be the latest stuff. What is more likely is the less friendly stuff that doesn't cost a fortune.
Tightly woven carpet is actually a great play suface. Use zip ties through the weave to anchor bunkers, and you have a good field.

hmmm, haven't had the privelage/misfortune to play on astro yet, only grass. Mind you won't bother me, not like I do any mad running and sliding as a D-tackle
