To be honest mate it's a bit difficult to explain how to dive in words.

Best bet would be if you get a paintball dvd, watch how they do it, and then start practicing their same motion but from standing still.

Keep doing this until it feels more natural, now try it with a bit of speed etc steadily getting faster.

As for protection, elbow pads are a must, no box (haven't tried it, but superman slide/box - really don't seem to go)

Knee pads preferably too.

Hope this helps

Just go for it mate follow all the advise about hand positions and so on then just get out there and try it. If you get the wind knocked out of you a few times take it in your stride and keep going eventually it will just become instinct and you will be diving into the snake without even thiking.

Whilst this is a little like telling someone how to eat an apple (everyone has their own way and it's the end result that counts, not the process), this is what I keep in my head while I'm diving.

1) Take off from right foot, low down,as has already been said
2) Lead with (non-gun) left hand
3) (MOST IMPORTANT BIT) Rotate slightly while diving so I land on LHS on ribcage, NOT on both tits together (or you'll look and feel like one when you get royally winded)

I've never worn padding (even on the astroturf at HGIII), but for many players the main problem is confidence, and pads are a good way of getting over this block.

your just double hard aren't you :) ;)

slide shorts can be used instead of a box, a box is a very bad idea. Also if you use a belt with your trousers - turn the buckle to the back. i learnt that the hard way :)

okay cheers for all the help guys!

i did my first ever slide this weekend and it was wicked.
the slide was okay but when i landed i tended to sort of roll over my shoulder onto my side, if i would of kept rolling i would have ended up on my back.

anyone got any tips to combat this or will it just come with practise???

cheers

the first time i tried a superman dive, i took the gauge clean off my bottle. i then went to the XSV clinic that was held at the northern quarter, where they shohwed me what to do! (believe it or not they know what they are doing!:) )

just make sure your arms are out in front of you, with your marker above them

anyone that says "it just happens......but i cant do it when no one is firing at me" in my opinion is talking ****.

Its a skill, like snapping, running & gunnin so practice it and make sure you CAN do it on demand. Also practice with your gun in your right AND in your left hand, then your not fumbling mid-run to swap hands 'cause you can only dive on one side.
