what can i add to what's been said?
when i saw the weather on saturday and the forecast for sunday, my thoughts were with you guys in fear of a washout.
fortunately, the rain stayed relatively subdued on the saturday (thanks to LIPS and Manic we kept ourselves out of much of it) and sundays weather was ideal.
saturdays little games were fast, frantic fun and a great way to see some of the zones. the site being open to regular customers on the saturday and the traders on site gives these customers a view of what comes next on their paintball journey. the UK 'balling community wandering around in a friendly atmosphere paints us in a good light to the public. which leads me to wonder whether anyone thought to drag the local media in? It's the kind of thing local TV news crews need to fill up their "and finally" slots, and local rags are always needing pages filled.
saturday night - don' think worksop new what hit it. half the players must have been in the millhouse eating plate loads of meat. the kitchen were...... troubled. lol!! then we raided the unicorn (via the KE7 to reclaim the cake me and craig had stashed for willie). got a few bevvies in and the barmaid had to call in help from the rest of the staff who were on a night out.... then the warriors did the usual and found somewhere else to drink after closing time, with some help from some local lads who were even more drunk than us. bumped into cessle and co. too. picked up a cheeky wee (okay extra large!!) kebab on the way back to the travelodge just to finsh off.
sunday. great game. i'll put a few points up:
LED "flags" were nice n bright. it made it easy to pick out the stations and see clearly what colour it was. no more edging towards it to work out the colour of the manky flag then getting lit up when you find it's not yours (damn those amber lenses)!!
Big screens. a godsend when couple with Jen and radios! so easy to find out what's needed where. think jen talked herself hoarse relaying stuff across all day, and stella got his ear cooked radio chatter.
Players. Probably one of the, no i'll go further, it was the best self-marshalling i've seen. ever. one exception was the bloke in the maze zone with "itchy foot syndrome" - that netting doesn't cover below the ankle. it's why i shot you three times on the boots and watched you dance/scratch it off three times before deciding you weren't worth the paint..... congrats to the red guy in the fort i practically ran into. you did well getting in there with a good dozen blues still dotted around in the place. i did the decent thing and volunteered to walk.
Teams. It's great see everyone having such banter/moaning/storytelling in the safe zone and then disappear to go fling paint at each other. Good to see everyone again, and roll on call to duty so we can do it all again. Thanks to the Convicts for dragging some of the guys from The Firm tourney team along to cover our speedball missions - at least we won something!!
Other things.
Traders. Excellent to see a good turnout. Special thanks to LIPS and MANIC over the weekend - I know we stole your tent space on saturday, but much appreciated.
HPAC. spot on 4.5k air all day. 'nuff said
Toilets. Like, Wow. That site has just set what should be the international (ok,UK) standard for toilets. A bit of a weird thing to rave about, but let's face it - will you ever look at a portaloo on site the same way again?
Marshals - big thanks to all the guys (and girls) that gave up the chance to play and thanks to the regular skirmish staff. hopefully we made it easy for you guys. certainly seemed like it should have been.
Think that's about long enough. If tim can do war and peace for a players pack, i can do lord of the rings in return.
AND FINALLY: Gassy, I can now put a face to a name
