Strange things afoot in Euro tourney ball...

Okay, combining some of the stuff picked up in recent threads and some of the stuff I 'happened' to come across whilst talking to people, I have to say that something very scary seems to be happening.
There is a certain player/organiser/company chief, who we will call 'This Guy' from now on, that seems to have a hidden agenda.

This Guy has made some cool inventions that removed paintball from the woods.
This Guy organises one of the most successful events in the world.
This Guy is part of the Millennium board, and as such has a responsibility to assist other (particularly new) organisers (who have to pay a substantial amount of money to be allowed to organise an event). One organiser of a new event was supposed to receive graphic material from This Guy, in order to make posters and flyers to promote the event. Despite numerous phonecalls, faxes, and emails to this guy, the material only showed up about a week and a half before the event, meaning the posters and all could not be put up until a few days before the event took place.
This Gy accuses teams of the most weird and outlandish things. Any sane person hearing these accusations can only be bewildered by This Guy's imagination.
This Guy has an employee that is part of the Millennium rules committee. This Guy will not hesitate to lean heavily on this employee in order to get a ruling against his team undone.
This Guy owns a magazine. In this magazine there was a review of a recent event, which worked by giving points for certain aspects of the vent. Here's a breakdown of these points. Schedule: 1 point out of a possible 5. No argument. The schedule was flawed. Field layouts: 2 or 3 (doing this from the top of my head) out of 5. What? Everybody I spoke to, from the freshest novice, to the most seasoned pro, agreed that the fields were a breath of fresh air, and were ideal for promoting aggressive play. Infrastructure: 2 or 3 out of 5. Bizarre. Everybody was mightily impressed how everything was within spitting distance of everything else, how the trade area was placed very well within the center of the site. A tourney that was criticised for it's infrastructure received better markings! makes ya wonder... Atmosphere: 2 out of 5. Sure, there were some mutterings, but the vast majority of people had happy faces. In fact, a high profile US pro player even phoned up one of the organisers in order to thank him for one of the best weekends he had in a long time! Oh, and guess what? This review was written by the same employee that's in the committee.

What does this all mean? I have't got a clue, but it sure smells fishy to me. Seems to me that this guy is trying to become the Bill Gates of paintball, by making sure that whatever is 'better' than what he has, gets carpet bombed into oblivion...

I could be wrong, and I hope to God that I am, but this stuff is worrisome.

rancid

Mother, is that you?
Oh I love riddles.

It's all good competition isn't it? Survival of the fittest? Do unto others before they send Robbo round. Perhaps paintball could do with a harder edge? Summat to batter down the public's perceptions?

Anyone who gets out out of this industry deserves it... and if they have to kick their grandmother for a field goal to get there, well then so be it.

No offense, but do you really think the DMA was/is better than "one of the most succesful events in this world"?!

I have yet to find one word in Buddha's post that suggests he is, you wanna let us know what part of Bud's post does this ?

Due to the content of his posting i understand it, like it's directed toward the tournament. Especially Buddha 3 wrote about the Face-Full Report of the DMA's and the points that they gave for this tournament let's you more and more think he means the DMA's have been better than rated in the Face-Full report!

Hey Fierce,

Robbo already explained it, but I think that the exponent can be applied though.
When the Amsterdam organisers learn from all the things that went wrong, it has the potential to become a very successful tournament. One that takes place just about a month before Toulouse, AND in a place that is cheap to get to for a lot of teams (a whole lot cheaper to get to than Toulouse). So like Bill Gates does when he sees a small, starting company, and he realises that in the future it might become a major competitor, it is easy to make sure that you either over (part of) their business, or you make sure that it goes away into the cold dark night.

Anyway, this thread is not about the quality of events, but about finding out just what the hell is going on.

Fierce, I think if you re-read it, you should glean that there is more afoot here than just the mis-reporting of the Amsterdam tournament.
Now I don't want to put words into Buddha's mouth but I think he is hinting at something a little wider in implication than just the DMA, hence the team comment.
I could be wrong and until Bud gets on here to clarify, I am hostage to his posts.
