need to get hold of Tank for an exit
Call me wierd, but here's something I could do with knowing.

I heard (from a rather tired drunken friend) that there's no such thing as DOT and HSE anymore, just one standard for bottles, and if I had, say, a DOT bottle in the UK, all I would have to do is get it tested and it's cool to use in this country.

Now, I've heard nowt about this, so I'm wondering if it's true?

If it is complete rubbish (which I suspect), it still made me think, if I submit a DOT bottle to a UK (ie HSE) re-test, does that make the bottle legal to use, as it's passed a HSE-standard hydrostatic retest.

I can't see why not (apart from the bottle being stamped DOT rather than HSE), but then the re-test label should say HSE on it somewhere, right?

Anyways, enough of my rubbish, I shouldn't be allowed to post after a long day coding Java and setting up network routers, followed by a "few" down the pub. :D

Oh crap here we go again a DOT bottle can't be tested to HSE standard regardless and the same is true of the reverse testing.

The WDP bottle can be 'cos it is DUAL (HSE & DOT) tested. It is the ONLY one available to be made that way, the only time you would run into difficulties with one of those tanks is if you moved abroad to live or sold it to someone abroad then it would have to be retested straight away cos it will be subject to the other set of tests.

Pathetic, isn't it? We invent the things and your countries decide our engineering isn't good enough for you. Sure, I drive a Volvo, but don't you wish you were driving a Corvette? :p

Yeah, the Angel AIR's bottles are dual tested. You can have one put on any air system you own and it should pass just fine, which isn't really a bother because they're nice and light and very sexy.

Cheers for clearing that up Mark, I thought my mate may have been uttering complete rubbish, but I wanted to check that I hadn't missed anything.

I still think that if you put a DOT bottle through a HSE re-test it should be cool to use, but hey, what do I know.

Another random thought - our chums over the channel in Europe use DOT bottles, right? What id the UK was to become a "properly integrated" part of a european super state, would we then be able to use DOT bottles over here?

I had my DOT tank tested in the Uk last May and it got tested to HSE standards. I was told by Rekka that it was not legal but i got the tank back and recieved the certificate.
I dont know the reasons but i do know my tank is DOT and it passed a HSE standards test.

maybe he was confusing the air bottles with co2 bottles. there is now a european wide standard and most companies are now shipping these.

Lets hear it for "pounds sterling" and HSE and being differant to every other bugger around:D
as for HSE and DOT I will ask a mate who runs a dive shop and has the facilaties to test bottles.
I have heard that tanks not for use under water only need testing every 5 years rather than the 2 or 3 (not sure) for the sub aqua tanks I will ask that one as well.

John, I've seen a few p'ball air bottles recently claiming that they only need testing every 5 years, and a mate recently was told by a major shop in the UK that his air bottle had a 5 year test on it.
Personally I'll stick to the 3 year thing until i see some official thing about it, it's all well and good a shop saying 5 years, but I'm sure if I had a 4 year old bottle at a tourney, they wouldn't fill it without a recent test.

As for the Euro - Britain has the 4th largest economy in the world, why should we be assimilated into someone else's little financial world. ? ;)
