i have used both and prefer the stiffi as it's alot lighter and i think more accurate and they do a mamba kit which includes 685 687 689 691
howerver there are down sides to it ie you can only use nicro fiber flufs and more likley to break if you hit the ground hard. not good if you play woodsball

freak kit howerer is a hell of alot hevier and you have inserts to put in the back section which i personly found really anoying it is hoever cheaper for a full freak kit and you get alot more options.

other barrel systems that might be worth a look at are
dye ul
PowerLyte Scepter barrel kit similar to the freak but a litle lighter and cheaper
proto

hope this helps

Personally you're best off not buying any of the complete barrel kits. I've got a Freak kit myself and out of all the lovely inserts it comes with I only use two of them. And they are the .691 and .693 inserts. I normally get barrel breaks with the smaller size inserts because not all of the paintballs are perfectly round and I usually get quite a few misshapened in the boxes I get and the .695 is just too large! Plus with the two bores I use, the accuracy isn't effectived too greatly.

Overall, I'd say just get a Freak back with the 14inch Freak Front of your choosing and get those two bore inserts and you'll be covered for most eventualities and you'll be saving a a fair bit of money compared with the Stiffi.

Of the two, if you had the money, go for the Stiffi as its much lighter, although also much more expensive. Just remember not to use a fluffy stick :) !
benjy85pb is right though, I've always only needed .691 and .688 for tiny paint :) one or two sizes are usually good enough.

However, I've used Stiffi's, Freaks, Protolites, Ultralites, Fetherlites, Lapcos, Apexes and I have to say the best value for money and all-round performer are the Unitec barrels I was introduced to quite recently.

They are a different system where the back is just the marker adaptor, and the fronts are bored all the way to the end. Thus, if you have a full set of fronts and want to use them on a differently threaded marker, you just need to buy a new back. They are also pretty darn light and come in loads of colours.

Hope this helps.

Just out of interest how are you guys measuring the "accuracy" of the different barrels ?

And as light as a Stiffi may be wouldnt another ten paintballs in your hopper make the overall weight of the marker the same as it was with a standard barrel ??

Or...... have you weighed you air bottle when its empty and when its full ?

Should I just half fill the air system to save some weight at the back of the marker to balance the marker out.

Help please

Well then, I hope to see you on the field with your aluminium tank, Lapco and possibly a brick tied on to increase stability.
There's a reason why manufacturers strive every year to shave an extra one or two ounces off their markers;

1. People pay for a brand new marker even if it has a few slivers cut off here and there. How is this any different?

2. Speedball is about speed. Hence, the lighter the better.

I don't think thousands and thousands of ballers are wrong. Some even choose to use Stakos for the weight difference. Do you shoot a heavy-ass Tippmann? If you do then fair play to you but most other people prefer less weight. If he thinks a slightly lighter setup will help him, then why not?

Have you even weighed ten paintballs? And do you know Stiffis are about 50 grams?

Accuracy is blatantly obvious, it's well documented that barrels can affect performance, although bore sizing is much more important. Stick on a Stiffi and see your fps increase slightly because of the finish. Why does everyone replace the stock barrel on their marker?

This topic is trying to help the guy choose. Why come on with sarcastic comments that don't help anyone?

Sorry if you think I was being sarcastic but I'm new to all this hence why the question as to how everyone is measuring the accuracy of different barrels.

Does having a lighter gun make it faster ?

Why would I take a brick ?

at the end of the day i think that the type of paintball you play will depend on what barrel is best for you.

to answer your question hyperlite Does having a lighter gun make it faster?
it proberly doesent but if you play in supair tournaments which can be extreamly fast paced you need to keep your gun up at all times so that you can get that vital shot which could change the tide of the game a lighter gun will help you do this.

he means it makes you lighter and less weighed down so it makes you faster .. not the actual bps of the marker if thats what you meant?

stiffi's are very accurate but no more accurate than any other barrel well matched to the paint.

basically freak - you're paying for the choice of bores as its pretty much like 8? barrels in one, not that heavy but heavy compared to the stiffi.

stiffi - you're paying for the lightness of the carbon fibre. it's vitually weightless and feels like there isn't a barrel on the marker (some people like, some dont). But you dont have the choice of bore inserts like the freak (unless you buy the mamba kit) although i always like overboring anyway.

so its up to you, have a go with them both if you can?

also .. as for the 1/2 filling air etc if you buy it then do what you want and what feels good :)
