Sterling STP, new or old?

I'm afraid I don't know anyone who works on sterlings anymore, back in the day we used john bonich and mark church who did every kind of mod for the sterling, I know both of these no longer work on paintball markers.
Isn't there a guy call mike tatt sterling or something that makes them, maybe he would either know someone who works on them or maybe he does them himself.
Sorry I can't help much, I never really worked on markers, I was just the guy who pulled the trigger and when it didn't work I got another one and pulled that trigger, someone else always did my shizz for me.

I did try the mike tatt sterling on google and between plumbers and tattooists there wasn't much coming up. I also was was one of those who just loaded, ran and shot which is why I have no gun fixing skills but again many thanks for the replies guys

used both and loved the original back in the day smooth as butter

have used the new sterling and while very nice found it not right for me but that was down to size and shape would take a phantom any day of the week then and now

I did try the phantom and could never get on with it but it was lighter. Mine is an earlier proline stp with the brass barrell and apart from changing the airline to a quick release or asa on/off valve then I do not intend to change it too much, I like it's originality.

The old Sterlings have its own barrel thread, while [most of] the new ones from Arrow Precision take Spyder barrels. This makes it much easier to find barrels for the new Sterlings. I have a Bronze of the older type, and finding a barrel kit has been difficult. J&J may have some stock left of their Edge barrel backs, but they don't produce them anymore.

However, it's interesting to see that the old ones are "bore drop", meaning that the ball is pushed into the barrel by the bolt before being fired. The Spyder barreled ones are "breech drop", since the barrel doesn't go all the way back to the feed port, and the ball will sit in the breech of the gun before being fired. The difference in performance between the old and the new style is probably negligible, although I imagine breech drop action could be a problem if you like to run really tight barrels (I guess it depends upon how tight the breech is).
