Yeah shooting air only and it was showing a cap of 12 every now and then.
Does the cap reference only relate to capped modes,if so then that's the confusing bit....

No mate, It relates to every mode when the eyes are turned off.
All boards are set to display the factory cap when dry firing. Most markers do it, well I know my timmy used to as well. It is just a cap for when the eyes are off (if you turn them off in a game for any reason) to prevent chopping etc I suppose. (I am sure their is a scientific answer there somewhere)
Stick some paint in it and it will be fine and do exactly what it says above.
