controversy = entertaining and better to watch than 'fair play'
Completely agree. Perhaps the only thing better than watching controversy is watching controversy where someone get's caught (ask old Van Nistleroy). Spectators don't want to see honesty and sportsmanship 100% of the time, gotta have the "personalities" in the sport.

I've just read the PA rules and while there are some nice ideas, I think they are implemented a bit too strictly for what is an adrenaline sport, especailly played at a top level. I can see how you'd get some overly harsh calls being made, but there you go. I'll play a leg of the series next year and I'll make my mind up then.

re. Sosta's law.

Wouldn't it make more sense, that if a player get's caught wiping, instead of being banned for the next game, he gets a ban the next time he's playing against the team who he wiped against?

As it is, if a player gets Sosta'd, the team he cheated against are still on the loosing end & the next team on the schedule gets the advantage. Don't they?

Discuss. :D

Couldn't do it Rob for the player. As all you would have to do is field someone else instead of the offending player. You could however make the team play a player down.

Would work for the likes of the PA where you play the same teams all the time. But not any other series where they are randomly drawn.

Sostas law doesnt work where there may not be a following game, like in the finals.

Cheating may (if caught) cause one player to miss the following game but in a knock out situation not cheating may cause the entire team to miss the following game.

People could (and did) cheat like buggery at the PA cup, because effectively there was no real penalty for playing on.

Maybe they PA are cleverly harnessing the controversy to improve the marketability of paintball by encouraging people to cheat.
Or maybe its another new rule, which hasnt been thought through!!

PS Broz you would say that you big gun cheat!!!

Any publicity is good publicity :p

Seeing someone cheat and get away with it is awesome to watch in xball...the way the crowd erupts is so wicked. I saw the greatest whipe in a xball match at campaign, i forget the team but the flag runner had a shot on the peak of his goggles and he moved his head across a lie down...cleaning the shot perfectly

It was classic, the no-one on the field saw it but it was great entertainment to see people in the crowd do double takes....'did i just see that'....... It's **** like that keeps spectators on their toes and paying attention...

Fair play from both sides is a compromise that can lead to stagnation in a format like xball. But if some player gets away with a run through and playing on then it splits fans into two camps. The supporters of the cheat and his team will vehemently defend him and his move, the opposing spectators will moan and whine about the rubbish refs and how it is bull****. Total hypocrisy as if it was a player from 'their' team they would defend them. The passion situations such as this generates truly demonstates painball's ability to become a true sport that instills passion in its spectators as well as its players.

huh!!!

ashley cole ran into his raised studs, wheres the controversy in that?:D

i agree with the football analogy (re: fouls and diving in the box). its wrong but due to the amount of people doing it, it becomes accepted as part of the game....

on another note, i agree with the whole spectating front that you described there broz.
