I notice the other day on the Angel Owners Forum that some guy reckons he can install Space frames on bog standard LCD's. What do reckon, can it be done, is there anyone in the UK who can do this, coz I wouldn't mind one. (If I had the cash)

But surley you would have to change the board in the frame as the micro switch it mounted specifically for the 45 frame.

I've just had a look at the grip frame off the 4, and the mounting holes are in the same place. The board will go into the 4 grip frame with a slight alteration, so i would assume the IR3 frame is similar. It would also be possible to add the trigger wheels to the lcd, so that you could use the 4 trigger.

The answer is yes it will fit, and can be done. I will order a frame from wdp and try it.

Or if there are any cheap used IR3 grip frames out there let me know.

I've got a space frame on my LCD, piece of cake. Actually, I was the first person at Angel-owners.com to do it. The LCD board doesn't fit naturally though (think about it, it's angled at 45*, and you're trying to put into a frame suited for a completely non-angled board) You just have to cut a little slice of metal out of the back of the frame and drill and tap a hole for the top mounting screw of the LCD board. Sounds harder than it is, I did in about half an hour with a dremel, hand drill and Home Depot tap and die kit. PM me and I'll send you a rough diagram of where to do the cuts to get the LCD board in.

When i checked last night, it looked easy. I was thinking of removing the top right edge of the board making sure the track going to the capacitor was undamaged. There is then a possibility that the existing upper mount hole in the space frame could be used, by drilling the board just above the motor drive transistor. You may have to use a plastic screw in this hole to ensure no board circuitry would be grounded to the frame. Have you had any thoughts that way, maybe tried it yourself.

Nah, I didn't have the balls to cut my board (my parents bought me that angel, but if I screwed up the board, they wouldn't replace it, and I didn't want to either). I s'pose it couldn't hurt to try, if you're cutting off unused space on the board it doesn't seem like it could hurt anything. Worst case scenerio though, cutting the frame to fit the board isn't too tough.

Looks like either way it would work, so yes Rob, no problems you could have an lcd3, or even lcd4.

Have a look.

The pic is just a space frame off a 4 with the pins taken out of the trigger, you could replace the pins with grub screws, which would give an lcd type of adjustment, or mill the lcd to take the triger wheels off the 4. Either way it can be done.
I will pick up a space frame and get one going.

When you look at the lcd and compare it with the 4, the rear of the lcd looks wierd being so long, a good 22mm longer. And yes the grip frame does make it look better.
