I dissagree with the statement made that tournaments fell away for a reason..sure there were reasons but it is inferred and announced that it is lack of teams...that might well be the case now but not at the time. Regardless of the comments made elsewhere about woods not being the "thing" all this "Nu school" crap is just that! Paintball is Paintball. The tournament scene in the south was four venues and then number five got added and wasn't woods...then all five went in very quick sucession... Temple appeared due to the politics? money? after one of the 5 went and became basically the only event. Another site popped up but was small compared to the others and still remains reasonably supported. One person was responsible for the death of paintball in the south..I can't even begin to think or guess at their reasons, as in their mind it was the correct thing to do (but remember there is no money in paintball ;)). The Temple problems were of course the site itself and the reffing but as there wasn't an alternative the teams got very fed up with playing the same teams on the same fields every time this along with a few other things (which I won't type as they could be construed as libel) By the time the M25 league appeared this appathy was in full effect but the teams did turn up and the fallout is what we have today. The Dartford 7's will in effect be a re-run of the M25 league and the same crap will happen, this isn't the fault of the concept of the Darford 7's just the state of what is available lets us just hope that the people behind this event will press on regardless, but when your event is a choice of 1 crap is gonna get posted online. The Indoor is a few years old now and forgetting things that are way beyond the control of the organisors, people are still bitching about the event as in effect it is a choice of 1....see a pattern emerging? It gets posted that if you dislike something then don't go! Well if you don't have anywhere else to go what do you do...stop playing or carry on. If you do carry on then the event won't change as why should it? no reason to say the money isn't there as the people are still coming. There isn't a definate answer to the problem but don't hide your head in the sand the tournament scene is not in the south anymore and probably never will be again. Tournaments now are abroad and that opens up new problems money based but this time the money issues are in the players pockets not the organisors.
Sorry for the rant but I have gotten a little sick of this thread which appears in different forms on a very regular basis.

Personally, I dont think it's that complicated. the reason the tourney scene in the SE has failed is the QUALITY issue. People expect a certain bang for thier buck. you get it at the MM's and SK seris, but it never really happened down this way, possibly to do with the higher cost of living?

Thanks to Niall people now use Campaign as a bench mark, which means that any new series needs a great deal of finacing to get started and expect to survive. those which dont have that luxury oboviously fail to meet the quality - and hence all the bitching that goes on and no stable home for us in the SE.

(also Temple over saturated it's own demograhpical market - with 5/7man on alternate weekends. with all the best will in the world, no teams could afford to play that regularly)

but what you gonna do? Are YOU going to get off your arse and organise it? Well Kudo's to those that do. i wouldn't want that job for the world :)

For those that trying with the D7's lets hope it's a roaring success!

Broken Arrow, we are still in talks with people over contracts and the like. What I will say is that we are looking at three possible sites, the most likely just outside the city of Bath; the second site is in Hampshire and the third near Swindon.

The main issue that we feel has stopped the south from holding good tournaments, is that the quality of the tournaments hasn't always been of that good a standard. So we are holding off bit on starting up, because we want every detail to be in place before we open. Another point we feel hasn't help the tournament scene down south, is that the tournaments you get are always held at different venues, some of which are better than others. Hence the reason why we decide to open up a site which only caters for tournaments and team training.

why is it that you southerners are always complaining about distance to go to play a tourney is it the cost of getting there.I thought it was us Scots who where supposed to be tight gits. We travel for five hours to our tourneys twice a month and you dont here us complaining. Also we have to pay for hotels as we cant drive down in the morning. If you dont like the travelling do what the guys in Carlisle did and get your self a couple of sup`airs and start your own little tourney series.:D

(sits back and waits for the bombs to drop:rolleyes:   )

Or maybe??? the cost of living up in the Highlands is cheaper than near London? :D I maybe wrong, but might explain why us Southerners hate travelling - cost? :D

Brand new teams (except those made up of highish level existing tournament players) should really consider playing their local series, at least for their first few tournaments. That way you get to find your feet without massive travel and accommodation bills. I always recommend that anyone new to tournament play gets themselves down to a local tourney to have a watch first as well, just so they get a good idea of what's going on. That way they can chat to other players & the organisers to find out what the procedures are when you do start playing.

Drop Keiran a mail on dartford7s@yahoo.co.uk, he can give you the details of the Dartford 7s which is your nearest series :)

Let me just clear something up there is no true north tournament series. Bully's Series sites are more north than the MM/KOTH series in some cases but actually only 2 of them can be even considered north, Elsham and Scun_thorpe and both of those are well below the M62 corridor. So you guys in the south stop complaining, most of the northern teams have a minimum 2 hours journey to their nearest tournie site and you never hear them complaining. Then you got the Scottish/Northumbrian/Cumbrian teams who travel down the night b4 and then the Irish/Manx boys dedicated to the sport without complaint.
