Hello. I've got an assignment to for my school's newspaper to write about paintball. Would anybody mind answering some questions? It would be a help. Thanks.

Here are some questions:

What attracts you to paintball?

How do you think paintball compares with video games, specifically first-person shooters?

Have you tried it?

Hopefully you have been paintballing, and if not, then get your skates on and go. You will then begin to understand the wibblings and droolings that happen when people talk about it. For me its the whole thing. The adrenaline, the game, the aftergame, the friendliness of everyone involved (I have never yet been to a tourney or rec day where people have not shook hands and said "good game" and sincerely meant it after every game) and the whole shebang. It doesnt matter whether you win (for me anyway) as long as you have fun and play well. Theres days when you dont play well, and that makes you all the more determined to go as soon as possible and try to correct your mistakes.

As to how it compares, it doesnt really. For a start its outside, and so you are less likey to go a nasty pasty colour :) I understand people can draw a correlation, both are games, where you are shooting someone, but the feeling of outrage I get when someone decides to try and shoot me (damn you, have some back!) cant be matched by a video game.

Go and experience it...

Hope that helps, just my opinion

Thanks Weakest Link--

I appreciate your answer. I was supposed to go this weekend, but that fell through. I can understand when you say I need to experience it. Do you mind if I use some direct quotes from you, attributing them to your screen name?

Ive been playing on-and-off for the last year or so, and as weakest link says everyones so damn nice (well off the field atleast) Wherever you go, there is almost always someone there willing to help you out, be it tech info, tactics, anything really. Thats not really what attracted me to the game, but deffinatly has deffanatly helped keep me in it.

As for the video games part, i geuss while there are alot of things that are similar, shooting people etc. paintball is getting away from the military genre and heading more for the mainstream, which i think is deffintaly good for the sport.
hope this helps
and sorry if it dosent make much sense, i just woke up and its too early :/

Paintball and first person shooters do share a few other factors, other than shooting eachother:

• They're both quite equipment orientated, especially if you compare competetive PC-Gaming (such as CounterStrike or whatever), there's a need for investment in the computer and connection to be able to come out on top.
• They're both trying to establish themselves as serious, competive sports. I think that FPS's have all kinds of leagues and LAN tournaments that are gradually becoming more mainstream.
